Mods not showing up on OBMM

Recommended Posts

Are you maybe using Win7 or Vista, Roughnecks?

If so, I hope you didn't install to the default directory. The UAC incorporated into Vista and Win7 does not like mods (or anything else that modifies any programs) being installed to the Program Files directory. One or two users have reported successfully getting away with it, but most seem to have problems.

If you have a UAC enabled operating system, but haven't installed to the program files folder, make sure you're running OBMM as an Admin. Just being signed into an admin account won't cut it. Right click on OBMM, navigate to properties or whatever, and set it to run as adminstrator. Beyond that, I'm out of guesses. Bben's got some ace guides on the TESNexus Articles server, including running mods with Win7 & Vista. Might be worth checking them out. Failing that, or ifg you are running on a non-UAC operating system, we might need more information.

Good Luck.

Another possibility is you did not unzip the files before putting them in the data folder. Oblivion does not recognize compressed files that end in .zip .7z .rar or any other compressed format. The only files tat will show up in the data list are .esp and .esm files.

My oblivion folder is in Program Files(87) or something, and i had mods for fallout and fallout was in the same place as oblivion and the fallout mods worked.

Yeah, but fallout3 officially supports Vista.

The thing is, your files may have been moved to the virtual store. Meaning it's outside of data files as you see them.

A way to check that is to install the contruction set and to save an .esp file. (No loads needed, just hit the save button when you see it.) Give it a name you remember and than put a search upon it if it doesn't appear in your data-folder.

If this is the case, it might be wise to install oblivion at another place (C:\Games or any non-existing folder on a harddisk.), or you'd have to do some extra trouble every time you install a mod.

I've read a few pieces that if you start OBMM as administrator it might not be needed...but I never had the problem...so I can't tell.

@bben...I had my suspicions, but I took a leap of faith on that quote of placement :P.

Where did you put the mods? If you installed to the default location

They should be extracted to C:\Program Files(x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data

If you are installing them to the fallout3\data as you say " fallout was in the same place as oblivion and the fallout mods worked."

Fallout should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout3\Data

The \data in Oblivion is a different \data then the \data in FO3. They are just alike, but different.

then UAC is obviously conspiring with your operating system to ignore all changes made to this program

either uninstall and re-install somewhere else

or

disable UAC.

disable UAC.

Noooo... don't advise peeples to do that! I actually got banned from a tech support forum I used to use for that! Apparently people are all completely dumb and therefore can only be allowed to use their computers exactly the way microshaft, the UAC, and the Feds want em to or the world will endz! Srsly!

Ahem... Nah. Seriously. I did get banned, but I'm not bitter. I already firebombed that particul... I'll stop there before I incriminate myself further.

But supposedly, if you've the UAC on your system, and you've disabled it, and something goes wrong, be it UAC related or not, Microsoft can actually refuse you any support on the grounds you've done something to your system that they never advise and, if it was down to them, a "regular user" wouldn't be able to do anyways.

One question... does anyone actually use any support from mircoshaft anyways? ;)

Happy hunting.
