Join Empire or Stormcloaks? My Thoughts

Most Empire supporters here are respectable opponents. Unfortunately, most Empire supporters on GameFAQs literally think every piece of pro-Stormcloak evidence in-game is a joke, a developer mistake (yes, literally, all that programming and voice acting was a mistake), or a "special case" that doesn't count (sure are a lot of "special cases" out there).

It's nice to have all the loons locked up in one barrel. Makes 'em easier to avoid.

It all rounds up to if the Empire still considers the Thalmor as their enemy and have a plan (even if it's long term) to fight them, or not and they're only clinging to their last scrubs of power and influence (which having in mind their lust for them, it's not hard to imagine).

If it's the first, I'll loan them a spear. If not, Stormcloaks all the way. And I've yet to find any evidence of the first.

Tullius and Rikke's blatant admission to the effect, for one. Tullius in particular makes note of the fact that he can't get a real Legion, because they're all sitting on the Dominion border preparing for war.

There is also the unusual circumstances of the execution and the brief Thalmor presence.

The doccuments in the Thalmor embassy indicate that they are concerned about the Empire's preperation for war, and are actively working to incite and prolong the Civil War to keep the Empire flat footed.

Two of the minor Leggates also comment on their frusterstion at not being at the proper front, and the waste-of-time distraction from the Dominion that the Civil War is.

Emperor Meds also indicates a willingness for renewing the fight, but a lack of political support to do so (the Empire has historically been dependant on private armies to supplement the Legions).

There is also the Empires attempt at simply ignoring the Talos ban until attention was called to it. This ties into the Execution and Tullius' blatant violation of Elenwin's authority over Ulfric's custody.

Yes, the military men and women want to go to war, but as you said, several politicians of the Empire (in terms of Skyrim, specifically, there are Erikur and Siddgeir) do not. Generals and Legates control the armies. Politicians control the Empire and the provinces, who support those armies. Even Tullius said, during Season Unending, that he can only represent the Empire, and that his own personal desires cannot factor into that.

At the same time, they clearly incidate that preperations are underway, whether for an invasion or to repel one isn't made overly clear. The Legion indicates very strongly that they are expecting the order, and the Emperor gives some implication that his death will solve the political issues holding them back.

On to opposite end, what evidence is there the Stormcloaks will fight? Ulfrics word seems to be the only thing not cut from the game, and that it's self is made suspect by the Thalmor Dossier.

Ulfric, in his speech, mentioned fighting the Thalmor on Skyrim's shores and abroad. Even if you don't trust Ulfric, I don't think that line (in other words, his hatred of the Thalmor backing those words up) by itself is a lie.

It's not so much an issue of trust (and for the record, I do think Ulfric is sincere that he at least PLANS to fight the Thalmor) it's about the weight of evidence. Multiple sources indicate the Empire is preparing for war. Where as there is only a single source which states that Ulfric WILL prepare for war.

Because of this, people who claim that the Empire won't fight, but Ulfric Will, are outright denying the evidence in-game.
