Taco5651
I just installed fallout for my pc here and downloaded a few addons before I started playing. Unfortunately when I tried to start my file it instantly closed my fallout and said I could send a report in (never do cose they never do anything about it) but I turned off all my addons and tried again. Same thing happened. All I have running is my fallout.emx or what ever its named. This isn't happening with my Oblivion but could anyone please help me and tell me how I could try to fix it. BossDweebe
Sorry to say - first mistake is to install mods before making sure the game is running correctly. 'Turning mods off' does always keep parts of the mod from interacting with the game. Most yes, but not all.If you are using manual installed mods (ones with esp and files) then you will want to open the original zip file to find what the mod has installed, and navigate to the folder/s where the mod components (meshes, textures etc) are supposed to be by using the original as your guide. Then delete these files, and the esp (after it has been turned off). Now try the game without the mods. If it is still not working you may want to reinstall. If you do reinstall be sure the folder is empty first. You don't want remnants of the mods lingering in the folder. If there are any it will give you a good idea of where they/you went wrong however. Option 2:If you don't find the mods folders/files then look for them in adjacent folders to see if they have been misplaced and move them to where they should be according to the file structure in the newly opened zip file. Then activate the mod again and see if it is OK. If not it's back to the reinstall option above. I agree the error reports are a waste of time. It is only rarely that MS has an answer to it's own error reports. btw - it will help your understanding of the process to get the terminology right. "emx or whatever" is not really helping you. There are esp's . esm's and the exe (which starts the game). You really do have to bea bit precise if you don't want mods to nuke your game. bben46
Instead of reinstalling, try returning the game to it's vanilla state. Rename the data folder to something else (oldata or whatever you choose) then create a new Data folder and COPY do not move the following files back into the new data folder. Music (folder)Shaders (folder)Video (folder)Credits.txt - probably not neededFallout-MenuVoices.bsaFallout-Meshes.bsaFallout-Misc.bsaFallout-sound.bsaFallout-Textures.bsaFallout-Voices.bsaFallout3.esm That should put the game back to it's original pre mods state. Now start the game and make a save. (its a PITA waiting through all of the intro cut scenes but wait if you must)Now start adding mods, ONE at a time and testing between each one,
zebrin
Question. Are you playing Fallout3 on windows 7? I have the exact same problem. you can do pretty much anything on the main menu, but when you start a new game it crashes.
Taco5651
Alright, I went though and deleted everything but my DLC from my fallout 3 folder. Im re-downloading as of right now and will try to start a new file once its done. If it doesn't work ill just good solutions to it and crash my computer trying a ton of different answers to it. Taco5651
And, Im still having the same problem. I can click "New" and it'll go into the loading screen but it'll stay in there like its trying to load it up then shuts me out after ~20-30seconds. I'm not sure what the problem is but im cleaning up my computer right now and it auto sets to Low but still lags. I may be taking oblivion off soon to try and compensate.
