BossDweebe
G'day everyone - I installed the newer Nifskope, and while it will display the texture properties for my Oblivion Meshes it will not do so with the FO3 meshes. Why would this be ? The textures show on the mesh, but there is no 'flower'/ path bar. This question probably belongs on another page, but while I'm here -I downloaded the 'GECK essentials' tutorial pack, but am unfamiliar with the mht extension that the files are in. No read me - so I'm at a loss. It will open in notepad, but not very reader friendly. Thanks in advance for any info....
phoneyLogic
Texture properties? Do you mean the texture path?If not, can you please make a screenshot about the properties you mean? Just open Nifscope, show the properties, hit the print key on your keboard, open a paint program, hit Ctrl+V (paste in) and yeah ^^ ... sorry if you already know that :pinch: FO3 uses a newer Nif version than Oblivion. So there are differences how e.g. the lod is handled.
BossDweebe
While I did use the word path I also misused properties as that bar is above the NiSourceTexture. Which is the bar for the path, and which has the little flower icon I mentioned.Anyway - Neither the NiTexturingProperties or NeSourceTexture are coming up with my FO3 stuff, only Oblivion. The material is still there, and it looks like everything else.I can also access the UV map, and the meshes that are showing the texture have the correct texture showing in the UV map, but no texture reference in the Block List at all. They all work in the game as well. I have tried two newer versions on NifSkope as the one I used to use w/ Oblivion could not handle the FO3 mesh at all. Another problem is GECK keep setting itself as the default program for opening Nifs. This happened the first time I opened it.I have not been able to fine a reference in the program or the ini to stop this behavior. NifSkpe did become default again when Ireinstalled it to see if that would help with the texture path issue. Thanks again -

BossDweebe
Hi TT - Ah ha! Now why did they go and do that for ? Moved from the List to the DetailsIt was easier in the Block list, and changing the terminology on an old man is unfair too.I saw the word shader, but didn't notice the word texture in the next line. Didn't expect the move to Details at all. Yeah ! I know about the r/click, but GECK is overriding the "always use this", so I have to do open with every time. Nuance.GECK has it's icon on all the Nif's to indicate it's supremacy. CS used to only have them on the esp's.I'll do a reinstall of the GECK, and see what happens.Or, maybe it's Win 7 doing this. Any ideas on the .mht extension and what it is supposed to open with ? I tried Word Pad, Firefox and adobe, but can't get a goodformat. Thanks mate - EDIT: I guess what threw me is that the Oblivion texture path is still in the List.Just noticed the GECK has overpowered my Oblivion Nif's as well. Not happy....I wonder if CS and GECK are fighting with each other, if so GECK has won. It wants my Oblivion esp's as well.

There is only one icon used for each file type and ESPs are ESPs - no matter what game. I'll do a reinstall of the GECK, and see what happens.Or, maybe it's Win 7 doing this.Possible, have you disabled or worked around the UAC problem by installing FO3 outside the 'Program Files' folder or by disabling UAC? Any ideas on the .mht extension and what it is supposed to open with ? I tried Word Pad, Firefox and adobe, but can't get a goodformat.Nope, but Wikipedia told me that is a html format. Dunno how to open it, but maybe the internet explorer does it. Nifskope seems to accept both game directories and the GECK does not fight with the CS. It's just another Editor which introduces a new icon for ESPs and ESMs. If you use right-click >> propreties >> some kind of change symbol / icon, you can assign any icon you want for the file type. no problem
phoneyLogic
Hmm, ok ... Under XP you can assign any program you want for each file type like this: 1. Open a Window, e.g. your "Computer" ( hit < Alt > if the menu bar won't be shown in the window ) 2. Go to Tools --> Folder Options and click the "File Type" tab. 3. Just click on a file type and enter nif with your keyboard. 4. If the file type nif is shown click on change and assign nifscope. --Sadly I dont know how its working for win7. You could have a look herehttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default Good luck
BossDweebe
Hi TT -I just found it. In Win 7 it's in 'Default Programs' in the control panel, no longer in the folder options as with XP. I was able to disassociate GECK here. GECK and NifSkpoe were both listed, but GECK was first on the list so maybe that is why it prevailed. If it re-associates again I'll try to reposition it below Nif Skope. You might call it a 'load order' issue - lol. I have disabled UAC and the new memory hungry super duper search indexing - The search fix was the first step in stopping FO3 from locking up. It stopped it from locking and started it CTDing. About four more fixes followed. Running smooth now - finally. I also use a simple RAM saving desktop option. I had to run FO3 on my XP machine for the first week or so. I have always installed my games to their own partition or HDD. RE the icons. I just thought that as CS is still in Oblivion that the CS icon would still prevail. CS seems OK and it actually does still have it's icon. I found the 'Default Programs' while looking for the page that XP has on the Uninstall program that let's you determine the default HTML etc.I found three ( .mht - .mht" & .mhtml ) extensions here and set them all for Firefox, but the doc didn't open at all. Not really an issue as I know my way around CS, and GECK looks pretty much the same, but I do like to know what's what, and how.I'll look into this again, but have to reboot as I enabled IE. (the doc says 'saved by IE at the top). One of the good things in Win 7 is you can disable IE via 'Windows Features'. This is in with the uninstall programs (programs and features) now. So - you reckon you deserve a kudu for all your hard work, me too.
