Solidsnake33094
I'm out of ideas. Now before anyone says it, no, my mods are not causing this, this has been happening since I was still playing the vanilla game. It's a problem that has never gotten better or worse, but it's persisted, and the length of time I've dealt with it has gotten to irritate me to no end, and I'm desperately trying to find a fix. Basically, the title says it all. My FPS has been fluctuating in ways that don't make the least bit of sense. When outdoors, I get 45-60 FPS just about anywhere except up in the mountains and in Jacobstown. However, when travelling, at random times, the framerate will just cap out at 30 FPS no matter where I look. What's weirder is that when I look up at the sky or the ground, where you'd think the FPS would damn near triple, it goes even LOWER, sometimes as low as 20 FPS. The problem is just as weird indoors. I get a solid 60FPS in basically every interior in the game, cant think of one where I don't. Some of these interiors, at random, will again, just cap out at 30, sometimes when I walk in, and sometimes even when I've been in there for a while. And, AGAIN, if I look into a corner or any place with LESS things on screen, the framerate dips into the low 20's. What makes these dips in performance nonsensical is that they never stay this low, and it never comes and goes in the same places. Anytime, anywhere, my framerate will cut in half, or more, for no reason, and sometimes, it can be ten seconds later or ten minutes later, it'll just shoot right back up to what it should be in that area. I've done extensive .ini tweaking since the beginning, VSYNC is disabled. I'm running the game on a laptop, Intel HD Graphics, Pentium 2020M 2.4GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, and Win 8.1. I run the game on a mix of medium-high at 1280x720 with a few graphical mods such as NMC's textures (512x512 version), enhanced blood (textures downscaled to 512 via texture optimizer, and Nevada Skies. But again, I can't blame the mods for this because it occured even in the vanilla game, and since I installed these mods, the situation hasn't improved or gotten worse, I get exactly the same performance, and trust me, I did a lot of testing to make sure of this. If anyone at all can tell me what the problem is and how to fix it, I'd be insanely grateful. I'd do my best to repay you. Hell, I may even gift you a cheap game through Steam. I just desperately want a fix to this mind numbing FPS problem that's causing my brain cells to shrivel up and die at a rapid pace. Help.
FrisbeDoge
You may just have to deal with it unless someone knows what to do, it is similar to my skyrim outdoors has a good framerate for me but since inside buildings are so cluttered and stuff they are laggier. Solidsnake33094
In Skyrim though the interiors are laggy because of the light sources. Even if you turn shadows off, the actual glow effect around candles and fireplaces and such is mainly was causes the FPS drop. However, NV has extremely simplistic lighting in comparison, with no similar light sources to speak of. On top of that, NV and FO3 use an identical game engine, NV may as well just be a huge FO3 mod because of how similar the engine is, and yet I don't have these framerate issues in FO3. Solidsnake33094
Btw, to mostly fix the indoor lag problem in Skyrim, open up Skyrim.ini, which should be located in Documents/My Games/Skyrim, and add these lines to it: [LightingShader]fSpecularLODFadeEnd=0.0fSpecularLODFadeStart=0.0 It basically makes it so bottles and other objects don't reflect the light sources in the room. Gave me about a 10FPS boost on average, sometimes more.
