Thor.
Yes that's right, Nasa finally made a engine that doesn't use fuel of any kind, even electricity, but it does have fuel which brings about a paradox. you have to have some sort of repellent which makes this drive so unusual. it uses space as its fuel which is infinite. It could go on forever without refueling until it brakes down. http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/187346-nasa-tests-impossible-no-fuel-quantum-space-engine-and-it-actually-works A Space engine that you could literally forget that its even there. if you use metal that can last forever, it'll last forever. that's why they are calling it the impossible drive. This drive was the key factor to warp drive being a success, which is stage one. Build a very reliable and cheap engine. http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/t6-640x480.jpg Nasa's version is called the the QVPT drive Some sites say this can be used for flying cars, hover boards and other future tech, which back to the future predicted by 2015 would have.I figured i'd post this here, sense its interesting and a step closer to all sorts of things. Not just space flight. if nasa makes it open source, it could cost 11 million to build a space craft, so some one could kick start a project using this tech. This drive could keep going and going, faster and faster as it flies through space. It can in theory reach the speed of light if it had lots of assistance. like planets over time. Not to mention its a very quiet drive as that presentation states. It'll be like those ufo's flying over, just the thought, having a silent flying cars or hover boards with zero sound, creepy. Revised name i like to give it, the infinite impossible drive. Edited August 4, 2014 by Thor.
TheCalliton
Well I will be a monkey's drinking buddy! This reminds me of the gauss rifle project for some odd reason...
Antigravitas
interesting, in your typo you say it will only fail if it brakes down. Truly, fuel is required for any type of braking maneuver developed under the auspices of the field of Feedback Control [vastly complex and unavoidable in this circumstance]; either as a direct propellant or as the stock energy necessary to deploy a braking structure. There is no free chicken and neither is there any owl.
Thor.
They could use mini thrusters using the same technology for slowing it down. Sigh no one understands my jargon on here, though sometimes it sparks a endless conversations. Also the fuel is the quantum particles in space, which is unlimited. This particular drive is a key factor to Alcubierre warp drive working a step closer to reality. which got the geek community really excited :geek: , because it proved one thing, matter does exist. Antigravitas
blah, my initial post was completely wrong. In those terms almost anything is fuel including the raw material. It was a peculiar study in tunnel vision on my part due to the interesting typo. This engine is neat
Thor.
They broke a speed barrier with this one particular drive, which cut down the travel time about 2000 years, it can achieve times around 30 years.. it'll pass the voyager space crafts as if it was standing still. All other types of engines that was before thought of has nothing against this drive, its a big brake through.Nasa is taking warp drive very seriously out of the theoretical science is now a piece of known fact it can be done. Sense they tested it in labs already with success. http://www.andersoninstitute.com/alcubierre-warp-drive.html Just the power requirements is still insane, but we have the technology to do it today, its just a matter of time. TheCalliton
caption's log. Stardate... nowwe traveled back in time to the fabled time of the "galaga wars" only to find it a mere child's video game popular on ancient earth. Due to the lack of a time machine we are forced to teach the people of this time the basics of warp drive. It seems the only knowledge they have of it comes from a show called 'Star trek' which has a striking resembles to our time. This 'william Shatner' even bears a striking resemblance to myself, though his speech pattern is strange. Our friend Jack (whose white bath robe is still an odd fashin statement) says his time is even further back than this, dating back to before the already dated method of surfing the internet with something called a mouse (which looks nothing like the giant three eyes monstrosities of our time). We may be stuck here forever... tell my three husband and my wife... I buried the dog alive... end log p.s. scotty you still owe me 20 garnacks
Thor.
lool Star trek, its becoming more of a reality ever day. http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/187561-us-military-developing-star-trek-like-3d-food-printer-to-improve-awful-mre-rations Star Trek replication is on its way to, we just need the holodeck next, but in reality a little more impossible if you ask me.Artificial gravity can be done to, just need that spin.
