Essell
Well, here's a new one for me. I have looked through the forums and haven't found anyone having a similar problem. The problem, in a nutshell, is this: the entire game screen, from the Bethesda title screen, to the start screen, to the in-game screen, has shifted up and to the left, leaving me with a half-inch black border along the entire length of the right and bottom edges, while at the same time cutting off the upper and left edges of the screen images (sorry, no screenshot, but I think my description should be fairly straight forward). Up to this point, the game has been performing quite well. I do use quite a few mods, and have managed to solve any issues with the help of forum postings (thanks to all who have ever replied to any posts  ). The problem began when I installed two new quest mods, "The Ayleid Steps" and "Et in Arkay Ego". I looked into both before installing and didn't find any history of either of them causing any major problems. These were added to an already in-progress game, but shouldn't have caused any issues. I began playing the game, and all was well until a transition from an oblivion plane back to the "mundane" game world. The screen offset itself, and has remained in that state ever since. So, I went through the usual troubleshooting: disabling mods to see if that fixed the problem (including obse and streamline). It didn't. I tried loading an old save. No joy. Then I notice that the problem was pervasive, occuring during the title screens as well. This was definitely not a corrupted save issue. I then tried letting the game create a new .ini file (perhaps the new installations confused the game somehow?). This did nothing. The game screen was still offset. A video card driver malfunction? I went through the process of uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers with no better result. The thing is, this is the only program doing this. I booted up other games to see if the video card might be glitching, but they all run normally with a pleasantly well-centered screen. It is Oblivion alone that is offsetting itself. My last resort will be to go through the long process of uninstalling and reinstalling *everything* (something I would rather not do unless I absolutely must. A shifting screen sounds like it ought to be a video card or settings issue, but this is the only program behaving this way. Again, I have been running Oblivion for a couple years without any such occurrence, on the same system with the same card (an older Nvidia geForce 7800). Blackscreens I have encountered and fixed; offset screens, no. Please, if anyone has ever come across or heard of a similar issue, I would appreciate some good advice. Thanks ever so much. bben46
I have been giving Oblivion advice for several years and haven't seen that one before. I would have to think it is a video card problem. Can you try a different video card? Ask around and see if you can borrow something similar to the one you have. I used a 7600GT for a long time and it is now in my junk box. Along with several other older cards. Many geeks have such a junk box. Unfortunately, I am on the east coast so not much help there. Or try Craigs List for a local who has something you can get cheap.
Qwaxalot
Try changing your screen resolution. Oblivion doesn't play nice with many resolutions. Basically try your monitor's native resolution. (you can determine this by examining your "Dxdiag" .
Essell
Try changing your screen resolution. Oblivion doesn't play nice with many resolutions. Basically try your monitor's native resolution. (you can determine this by examining your "Dxdiag" . I probably should have mentioned that I did try multiple resolutions, all with the exact same offset result. It's as though the game has decided to center itself on an improper part of the screen. I appreciate the suggestion, though. bben: As I said, I too would have thought this to be a video card problem, except for the fact that Oblivion is the only program doing this. I find it every bit as strange as you do, believe me! Well, I guess I'll go about trying the uninstall/reinstall thing *sigh*. There goes my day  Thanks all
Fonger
The problem began when . . . FO3 has .ini settings for screen position, will check Obliv.ini - possibly related to Field of View (FOV) values or as an experiment backup your oblivion.ini (near your game saves, not your game program files) then delete it the game will generate a new one I'm suspecting that somehow this/these values got tinkered. Yeppers, Obliv.ini does have various settings related to FOV and such under heading "Display"
