Naelwyn
I've recently started taking screenshots to upload to mods, both as bug reports and for interesting things that can be done, where I ran into a bit of a snag. I've compressed them from bitmap form (4-5 meg pictures) to png using a native utility, but find that they are all just slightly over the upload limit of 1.5 MB. (They're running in at 1.6-1.85). As I have a feeling this size is a function of resolution, and I do not wish to play my game at a lower one solely to facilitate screenshots, I must ask if there is another way to do this that does not involve downloading another external utility. Hoping to have put this in the right section. Thanks for reading.
VictoriaG
Save them as jpegs, you could use gimp: http://www.gimp.org/
Vagrant0
Even MS paint has a resizing feature. None of the images uploaded to this site should be larger than 1024x768 resolution anyway simply because having larger requires scrolling by most users to see the full image. You can actually get away with 80% of that size, and just cropping out useless portions of the image (like hud elements) without losing any detail which wouldn't already be lost by converting to .jpg. The limit is there to cut down on server bandwidth and to force people to try and make reasonable use of what they're trying to show.
Naelwyn
Ah. Simply resizing to that limit works quite well. I had thought of cropping but some of the images would look weird. Cannot believe I missed resize. Thanks.
