roninsoul7
I recently got a brand new system, put in and tested a new video card, and then put the game on. (Side note, I hate the control panel list for win7, but life goes on). All is well and good with everything until I reach the Deep roads area, and then during random fights, the game crashes my computer. I have no idea if it is a compatibility issue or not and was wondering if anyone has experienced and/or overcome something similar?
DarkeWolf
32 bit or 64 bit? Have heard of some software issues with the 64 bit. especially an incompatibility with toolset. You could try right clicking the dao exe file and try running it in compatibility mode for windows vista or xp.Also try disabling as many of the programs that you've got running in the background as you can. Ctrl + alt +del to get into program manager. Now, I'm NOT familiar with NECESARY programs in w7, but stuff like printer software, antivirus, scheduler, stuff like that, are safe to turn off.You might also try defragging your hard drive, sometimes that can clear up some performance issues with the game. If its happening in the same general area, or against the same general enemies that are local to JUST that area, perhaps its a corrupted file? I know that some really, really wierd things can cause this to happen. For instance, on my machine, once the game's memory leak drains my system to or past a certain point, certain spells being cast will cause my game to CtD. (Crash to desktop). I recommend defraggler for the defrag. Its free, and does a faster job of it than windoze. Good luck!
roninsoul7
64 bit system, sorry been sleep deprived lately, it was only WAY afterwards that I thought to include anything at all about actual specifications. Processor is AMD Athlon II x2 2.7 GHz, 6 GB of ram, a 1 GB BFG video card, I will look into getting rid of some of the other programs in the backgrounds, since as of this morning the problem seems to have spread to Supreme Commander 2, both of which use roughly the same stats. ThingTheWiz
I had the same problem with Windows 7 (64 bit). For info the kit is an Acer M7721 with an Intel Core i7 running at at 2.67GHz; video card is Nvidia GeForce GT 220. Config is brand new so defragging wasn't even considered. Associating compatibilty mode with the dao.exe file solved it Hope the answer works for you too.
roninsoul7
I narrowed down the problem, and fixed it. When it started crashing other games as well, I went with what the most recent thing I had installed on my computer was, the Nvidia GT 220 video card, got a new video card and things are running fine again. Checking the Nvidia website, they are still having problems with the 200 series crashing on all types of games. Thank you both for your advice and time. BrujahWarrior
Interesting. But it kinda makes sense, after you've mentioned it. Windoze 7 has issues with some programs cooperating with vid cards in some of the recent releases of 3d artwork and CAD programs as well. ;..;
DarkeWolf
Interesting indeed. I had overlooked any changes to the computer itself. Bad me!!!But I'm glad to hear that you got it sorted out, tho I wish it hadnt been at the expense of a new vcard!
roninsoul7
Thankfully the old video card was still under the store warranty, so I was able to upgrade to a better card with little expense (new card was on sale :D ) and just a bit of time. Well, at least that part of it came out reasonably well!
roninsoul7
Really well actually, my new video card makes running multiple programs easy (I am guilty of leaving on messengers while I go play games such as Dragon Age, and Mass Effect 2) so I am happy with that at least. One day, we have to get a permanent thread for tech support, one that has some of the best options to try first before having to ask others, since I have seen advice repeated a few times.
