Can you delete OMOD files after installing?

Hey guys. I was wondering if you can delete / move OMOD files after you have put them in the mod manager. Also, if you create a mod from an archive, can you delete that archive? I'm starting to have way too many random folders just laying around!

i think you can delete an omod after you install it. but the problem there is if you uninstall the mod, you won't be able to reinstall it unless you download it again.

and you can also delete the archive after creating the omod.

You should make a backup of the omod then delete the original one and see if it works.

Just experiment with it a little bit, just make sure that you keep a backup in case anything goes wrong.

All OMODs are stored in a special folder after being installed so deleting the originally downloaded file is not a problem. However, I recommend keeping them for future reference. Such as a complete reinstall. Make a new folder outside of Oblivion and name it something like mod_backups. Then move the downloaded files into that to keep your game folders cleaner. Do this with one for test purposes. Then when you see what it does to your game, either move the rest there or delete them as you originally wanted to.

If you want to delete an OMOD from the list on the OBMM screen, that is not a good idea, as it defeats one of the main reasons for having OMODS in the first place - the ease of completely removing a mod from the game with the ability to easily put it back at any time.

If you are wanting to delete the esp files from the data folder, NO. as the game does not actually use the OMOD, It uses the esp, meshes and textures created by the OMOD when that OMOD is activated.

Can you? Yes. Should you? No. You could delete the archive the OMOD was created from but keeping the OMOD will allow you to easily re-install the mod in case you install another mod that overwrites files from your OMOD, a simply deactivate and re-activate is all that's needed to correct the problem...but not if you no longer have the OMOD.

In terms of managing your space, this is how I do it:

1. Download the archive

2. Convert it to an OMOD with all the bells and whistles (source URL, screenshot, description, etc.)

3. Delete the original archive.

4. Convert the OMOD to an OMOD-Ready archive and store it in your mod collection (that might get backed up to DVD).

This means I have 3 copies of the mod at one time (if installed). The extracted mod that is installed and in use (via OBMM), the OMOD file that controls the installation and an OMOD-Ready archive that I store in my collection.

The purpose of the OMOD-Ready archive is that I can access the contents of the file from any machine, anywhere and do not need OBMM installed. If for whatever reason OBMM no longer works, I can still access all the mods using the archives.
