stenli98
Hey there, nexus forums! Two days ago i re-installed my OS because of some problems... and fallout 3 was on other disk. Here comes the problem - when i click the launcher it just says i can install game, read the techincal support or quit. Tried running it from fallout3.exe but nothing happens. I saw some kind of a fix before I re-installed my OS and its name was something like "Fallout 3 launcher fix" or something like that. I searched it, but didnt find anything. The fix was that it fixes the button from INSTALL to PLAY and the other buttons. Can you please give me the link for the fix? Very please :(
Craigsters
Never heard of it, and that sounds like a crack for the exe you said  , you sure that was here?
bben46
What has happened is that when you reinstalled the OS on the other disk, it recreated the Windows registry without any of the entries needed by any programs that were added. Some programs can recreate their registry entries when they are not there, but most, including the Bethesda games cannot. My guess is you will have to reinstall the game to get these entries back. Before doing that, be sure to make a copy of the data folder with your mods outside of the FO3 folder so nothing gets lost. If your save games were on that other disk you nay have already lost them. If not, make a back up copy of them also. Then reinstall, start the game, make a save - this initializes the ini file. Then install any patches, start and make a save before copying your mods & saves back. You may have to reinstall some utility programs also if they use the registry for anything (most don't)

overload1977
the best way to fix this is reinstall fallout to somewhere new, then drag and drop all your old fallout 3 files into the newly installed place and click yes to over write, the only thing you need to do then is use ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated again to fix your ini to get all your old files working. bben46
Fallout 3 Launcher has nothing to do what what you describe. There are no programs I know of that can rebuild the registry entries without reinstalling. The registry is not a part of Fallout 3 but a part of Windows that tells the operating system where certain programs and their data are located and what to do with them and how to access that data when they are run. Those entries on your system are pointing to the wrong locations. If you were a registry wonk, you might be able to wade through several thousand cryptic lines of code, find the wrong entries and change them to match the new install. Hopefully without totally wrecking the registry and making your computer into an expensive paperweight. I do know how to do that. Believe me reinstalling is easier.
