Vindekarr
Hi All/I recently joined nexus to get more out of my collection of games, and so far Ive gotten that in spades, with hours of new fun, but Im starting to get a little concerned about the security of all this-I dont doubt this site is secure, if it wasnt I wouldnt have been sent here by the modding community at large, but Im a little worried about the fact that I keep getting popups loaded with malware leaping to the forefront everytime I come on here,or try to download something, so far this hasnt happened to me before on any other site, and its not been anything more than a pest, as Im not stupid enough touch these links, but its still setting off my antivirus, which takes a while to shut off again, anyone know how to prevent these appearing? if so, please tell me, its a real pain in the ass to have to waste minutes fiddling with my AV every time I go hunting for files.
Vagrant0
Offhand, I'd be tempted to think you have some malware already on your computer that your antivirus program either isn't detecting, or has added by itself. Try downloading, installing, and running the free version located herehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/ Might also help to say what antivirus you are using so that we can know how reliable these reports are. bben46
If you are seeing ads with malware please report them on the 'Feedback, Suggestions and Questions' topic. And they will be dealt with. A screenshot of the ad would help as ads are targeted and locale specific so we may not see the same ads. I also recommend running a full antivirus and anti malware scan on your system as soon as possible. If your antivirus refuses to update, that is an indication you have been infected. I recommend downloading the free trial version of MalwareBytes and running it in safe mode. Note: the full version is not free, but you can run the scan and remove malware with the trial versionAvailable here: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756 (this is a clean site and used by many Geeks) They also have a very good blog on removing viruses, including the hard to remove ones. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

I had sent a message back then regarding it, but never heard anything after that. Since then I've put NoScript into my Firefox browser and have been perfectly fine. It allows you to block specific addresses from showing up. The typical one across countless sites is google-analytics.com. For a while there was a heavy issue with flash-based ads silently installing malware onto computers that had older (and thus more exploitable) versions of Flash. It wasn't the ad sites themselves doing it, but third-party individuals injecting the ads with malicious embedded JavaScripts... or something like that. This was mid-December of last year. Here's a teeny article on the main page regarding it: http://blogs.adobe.com/psirt/2009/12/new_adobe_reader_and_acrobat_v.html These issues, as far as I know, have since been patched. Keep up with the Adobe Product Security Incident Response Team HERE. But yeah, Noscript. Good stuff. Good day, and stay safe.
