Windows 7 Locked .esp files

I recently got a laptop with windows 7 and got fo3: game of the year edition. i downloaded the g.e.c.k and the plugins i have been creating myself are becoming locked files. I tried giving myself permission but when I try to do that it says it can't locate the file even though I just saved it. What do I do about this?

99.99% of the time the problem is caused by UAC

 

if you installed the game to the default location

 

you already know the cause

 

so the solution it to install it someplace else

Why is this a poll? It is a common problem with a simple well documented solution. Don't put FO3 in the default location as UAC will be a nuisance.
