How do I open Oblivion items in Blender

Recommended Posts

Where the .nif file is your mesh, in this case, "mycup.nif", the .dds (I'm presuming that .bbs was a typo ;) ) is the texture file of your mesh. Think of the nif as the bones and the dds as the skin. If both have changed, you need to plant that modified .dds from your cup in your textures folder, and make sure that both the internal texture in the .nif and the texture of the cup in your mod point to your new texture. If not, you'll still be using the default Oblivion texture and if your nif isn't looking at that .dds file it'll be a missing texture (solid blue/black/purple skinned item)

Usually though, you can still pick those items up if you have made them so they can be taken in the CS (one of the pages for the base item has a little check box for this in it if I remember correctly)

Oh, make sure you check the one to add the games physics to the item too or it'll float around the place when you try to put it down.

And unless you've made an icon for it, make sure its not the icon .dds file you're changing (they're usually stored in the icons subfolder of the textures folder)

Happy modding. :)

Sounds like you do not have a collision model for your cup.

You can copy / paste collision from a similar object if one exists by using two NifSkope windows and do a Copy Branch of the collision in one window and paste it in the other window. I believe there is a tutorial on how to do this on the CS wiki or NifTools site but I don't have the link handy.

You could also create your own collision model but I have found that convex collision is about the only type that works consistent for such items. Adding a cylinder or rectangle primitive can sometimes have odd results in game after being exported by Blender...such as dropping the cup/sword and it starts zipping around the room like a nuclear bouncy ball.

FYI - I have detailed instructions on how to install Blender properly for any Windows OS here at TESNexus.

Oscar, I admire your determination. There is a set of tutorials specifically intended for creating content in Blender for Oblivion. The current tutorials: Blender2Oblivion Sessions 1 and 2 can be found at The Modeling Forum at the TES Alliance. Based on your questions, I believe you will find these very helpful. They cover many topics including UV mapping and creating collision in Blender for Oblivion.
