Vanilla Oblivion won't start

I recently installed Oblivion: Game Of The Year Edition on my computer, and when I try to start it,a small black window opens up on the top left corner and I get the dreaded "Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." message. Specs are:

Any ideas on how I can fix the problem?

You will find Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion

Fallout3 as Fallout3 PC

Mobile 1.5Ghz Celeron with 1gig RAM and onboard sound and video... my guess would be no. Takes a beefy laptop to take on Mehrunes Dagon. :confused:
