Is there a mod tutorial on how to setup random encounters?

After googling around, all find are random encounter mods but no random encounter tutorials.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? It would be much appreciated.

Just to be clear, by random encounters i mean X has a random chance to spawn at Y location. If possible, at Day or Night (im assuming it would be by game time).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great.

What about changing a models appearance? I know i figured this out years ago but i cant seem to remember. For instance a skeever, if i wanted to change the model of the skeever to a custom model (one i modeled in an external modeling program) but have it keep its behavior when i import it back in. Basically if i wanted the skeever to look like a dog, id extract the skeever model and model it to look like a dog, texture it, then re-import. Im assuming it would go something like that?

Would you be able to point me in the right direction for that? All i keep finding are armor / weapon tutorials.

You could look at the vanilla ones, like the Old Orc or the Redguard woman. They might be Story Manager quests, but I'm not sure. I'll check if I have time.

I'm not really an expert on modeling and texturing, but that sounds about right. You just need to make sure the skeevers model path points to the correct .nif, and make sure the texture path within the .nif is correct. Edited by Matthiaswagg

It is surprising there aren't any tutorials on the subject. If I figure it out I'll post a tutorial on my Skyrim modding site.

I feel theres a lot of "i figured it out but i wont bother posting a tutorial" when it comes to some of the more advanced mods. Not that theres anything wrong with it, your choice what to do. I am suprised though, you'd think skyrim modding would come with a huge amount of tutorials. Sadly all i find are kind of half-assed tutorials or some with heavy foreign accents that make it hard to understand. None touch on this particular subject.

Oh well, i guess its up to trial and error.

I understand how that bothers you, but there are a few reasons:

  • They feel like they're really bad at writing tutorials.
  • They feel like they have really bad grammar/language.
  • They don't want to share the information.
  • They don't have a full grasp of the English language and aren't comfortable writing a tutorial for it.
  • It never occurs to them to share their knowledge.

I attempt to do that with my site, but I'm not omniscient in any way. Far from it. Thus, I try to figure stuff out, and post when I learn. And hopefully, some interested modders might want to write some tutorials for my site, but that's not yet happened.
