Peregrine
I haven't got Oblivion yet either, but I am considering spending over €1000 to upgrade my PC for it. Is it really that bad? Malchik said on another thread that it isn't very long. Are all my hopes and dreams to to be shattered? Sorry if I am straying from the beaten track here, but I must know. :( It's absolutely not worth it. Oblivion is a decently playable game, a bit of fun if you have the hardware to run it. But it's really a disappointment in a lot of areas. You can really tell they dumbed things down to appeal to the console-kid market, and the result is a visually nice but shallow game. I'd say it's probably a 5-6 out of 10, not too many huge un-enjoyable flaws, but mediocre overall and well short of its potential. It's probably worth buying, but nowhere near worth enough to spend $1000 on upgrades for.
loveme4whoiam
I dunno about that. Judging it on how well it lived up to its potential, a definite 4 out of 10. But I still think it represents the best of the modern RPGs (apart from Neverwinter Ngihts, which I haven't payed so can't comment). Then again - worth 1000 euros? (Don't know the keyboard code for the euros sign *blush*) I'd say not, but all the cool games you'll be able to play, released and forthcoming, PLUS Oblivion, would. karkarinus
Of course I'm not going to spend one thousand control+alt+e just to play one game. But what to me is the gaming equivalent of the Lord of the Rings extended version trilogy set (which I patiently waited 5 years for), was to be the incentive I needed to upgrade. The upgrade would still be there, *Melancholy violins start playing in the background* ...but the illusion, the dreams and expectations, all those years of yearning - lost forever in the vast wastelands of disappointment...... *Snaps out of it* I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but I was really hoping it would live up to my highest expectations as sequel to Morrowind. P.S. Loveme: I'm playing Neverwinter Nights now for the first time so I'll let you know. And now they're bringing out the sequel......
Stampede
I suppose it all comes down to taste. The best and only way you will know for sure is by playing Oblivion. I thought Nwn was probably one of the worst rpgs I ever had the misfortune of suffering through. I gladly gave it away and never looked back. Loveme is right in that an upgrade for your PC will be neccessary sooner or later anyway.
Baraka
tee hee ... this was a hilarious interview. Can't wait to see the next installment. Hey guys, despite all the kibbitzing people are doing about Oblivion, it is still a good game and it is worth upgrading your computers to play it. Whether it becomes the great game Morrowind was, I think depends entirely on the developers and whether they are going to give us an importer to model for Oblivion with. What made Morrowind so great and probably the most unique game ever, was the modding and modeling community who included ev eryone in sharing in their downloadable mods. What other game do you know of that has been so enhanced by its player community as Morrowind? If Bethesda Gaming Company fails in this - they may just fail in all future games.Once you've alienated your public, it's hard to win them back .... even to click on a link to view an ad. Povuholo
Well, now when you ‘defeat’ (we do not like the term ‘kill’) a Daedra, he disappears in a puff of smoke and a dialogue box pops up to tell you that he is going to be ok and is actually going to Daedra heaven. With regards to nudity, you cannot remove or change your armour, so no problems there right? OK GREAT! Daedra heaven? This is good, if you ever get ideas like this please post! The more irony the better! ;D
