Hey guys,

 

I recently got a new PC,

 

windows 7 ultimate 64bit

12gb ddr3 1600mhz RAM

XFX ATi 5870 gpu

intel i7 960 (3.2)

2x 7200rmp HDD

etc

 

i can run other hardware intensive games FINE!!

i re-installed oblivion onto this pc, wthout mods i get 60FPS (max settings)

but when i drag my data folder (backed up from old PC) onto the new install, run my old save with all mods, i get MAX 30fps (seems capped) and even as low as 18 fps!!! No graphic settings changes

 

I tryed moving and installing mods 1 by 1 (proper install) and still same problem-

 

The FPS with mods is similar to that of my old comp (nvidia 8600, 4gb ram, vista) even tho i have a new computer!!

 

 

Can anyone help? Ill post my active mods, btw i use plugyy, obse and wyrebash

People on youtube have videos of oblivion max settings, and very intense texture replacers etc (motion blur, DOF) and get 40-60 fps too! on a lesser computer!!

 

why do i get so poo fps?

If they are inside maybe, but those stats are nearly impossible if they actually have a lot of texture replaces and mods installed with what the average consumer can afford. Get the sparkles out of your eyes and do not watch YouTube for stat information. Your load order is a mess.

Edit: Even if you get that thing sorted out, it is still a mess. You probably need to drop some mods. The issue is that you have a number of plugins that probably overlap with their changes. You need to remove the overlap. Also, replace Clean Quit with Fast Exit (version 2). You will find a link to it in that other thread on the "Stabilization Mods" page. You should go through all of the links I posted in that other thread, however.

Another thing to add in is i have 7000 units of gear in my inventory- I modded the encumbrance modifier so i have 12k weight carrying, aswell as TONS of items in inventory sacks

 

So you think it might be my mod load order and overall unorganisednessss?

Load order is very, very important. It can be the difference between the game crashing in a few seconds or playing for hours. You definitely need to organize it, and you should also analyze it for overlaps and conflicts.

And, Screen Effects can affect performance. Another thing is, Oblivion is not-so-well optimized game. When anything adds more actors(especially NPCs), you may see FPS drop when your character is by NPCs. When there're too many in one cell, severe performance hit and brain-dead actors(actors without AI processing) can be seen.

Having a huge inventory can slow things down. Especially when you open or close it. Oblivion was designed with a relatively small inventory in mind. Any time you do something with the inventory - or a companion does something with their stuff, the game has to go through the entire inventory list. So any script that checks inventory will take just a little longer to run.

 

Offload anything you don't need immediately into a storage container and see if things don't speed up just a little. Keep the number of items in each container below 256 though as after that things start to vanish. They will reappear when the total drops so they really are not lost.

That is not your load order. Please post your LO with Wrye Bash. Also, since you do not yet know what you are doing, uninstall all of those unknowns. They are in the wrong place, and taking time to learn how to move them can be done after fixing your issues.

Tom - BOSSlog = Load Order. Same thing, different name.

 

However, I suspect the OP didn't download or at least didn't use the newest masterlist for BOSS. Because I'm pretty damn sure Shield on back is on there. Another thing he wants to look at is Streamline. That'll throttle higher end systems, rather than help. On that computer I'd loose that completely.

I'd also take a long, hard look at tweakguides.com. Not specifically just for Oblivion, but if you ever want to run it even almost stable with that lot installed, you're gonna need some tweaking here and there.

 

Other mods to watch out for that I noticed on there - Screen control and motion blur can also choke FPS (global changes are good at that). As can OOO Waterfish, but obviously that one only applies to cells with or adjacent to water.

 

Basically Tek, reinstall, and start rebuilding your game mate. Play test thoroughly and keep in mind that 30FPS is actually faster than a Hollywood movie. You're not seeing low FPS. You're seeing transition periods between FPS rates and stuttering. BTW - reason your FPS was capped was likely streamline mate - By default it caps FPS at 30. Also - Halo 3 runs Capped permanently at 30 FPS. If you've ever played it you'll know that that's likely as fast as any game needs to run. Yes, you can go faster, which is usually only done for bragging rights and nothing more. Your games actually LOOSE functionality when you go much higher than that 60 FPS mark. There's only so much information a monitor can display at that rate, even the newer ones, and also only so much stuff your brain will take in.

Oh, and make sure you remember to wipe your .ini if you reinstall.

Remember not to install to the default directory on any operating system newer than windows XP. The UAC polices everything in the Program Files folder like no ones business.

Also remember that where possible, graphics settings should be altered with your gpu's own control system, and not through the game menus.

They are not the same thing. The BOSS Log pick up on all plugin in your load order whether they are installed or not. The BOSS Log is the timestamp sorted list of all of the plugins in your Data folder after BOSS tries to sort them. A load order is the timestamp ordered list of the plugins with content that will be loaded into the game (only active or pseudo-active plugins.)

 

Anyway, I noticed the same thing you pointed out. I am sure that that mod is already included, and OOO-WaterFish indeed puts pressure on the CPU. Streamline helps if it is setup properly. Many users do not do that. There are plenty of high-end systems running SL. Tweakguides.com's Oblivion section is out of date. There are still some good tweaks, but many of them are obsolete and wrong since the 1.2.0416 patch release.

You cannot really tell how that system can perform with that load list as it is.

 

 

Edit: The other reason I ask for the LO with Bash is because it convey MUCH more information, especially when the user is using a bashed patch. Also, make sure that that version of HF you have installed is the latest stand alone version and not the version bundled with OOO. Replace Clean Quit with Fast Exit v2.
