Why is there no multi-player feature in Skyrim?

Is it just me, or does it seem like playing Skyrim would be a lot more fun if you could allow other players to enter your world or to enter theirs either to fight each other or to be able to quest together. Lets not forget mods either. I believe in the idea of having a Skyrim-esq game where you can enter another player's world AND be able to see what mods they have running at the time. While the second part would seemingly be much harder than the first, it still seems like there isn't a reason(that I can find) for why there was no multi-play feature incorporated into the game. Opinions or Facts please!

Not everyone's a fan of the multiplayer/co-op features that have seeped into so many game series... if TES starts doing it in the main game series then unless there's the ability to completely remove any references to it within the game options then I'm likely to stop buying any TES titles.

I play the Dark Souls games, and even there I make sure it's set to offline before playing. I hate the invasion mechanic in those, but apart from that I like the games themselves.

As for seeing what other mods another players has - that would require that a copy of each mods they use is transferred to your game client - which could cause stability problems, use of mods you don't like or want - or even wreck your game. You'd have to setup some sort of persistant world to play in and agree on what mods to have first.

There's plenty of co-op and MP games around, leave something for the people that have no interest in it.

Well I completely agree with you. Ok so the multi-player mods wouldn't work but YES, there should be a simple switch in the options to either COMPLETELY turn off of on multiplayer in the game. I still think for some it would be fun, but if you ever are playing multi-player when you don't completely want to be then something is wrong. I'm not saying that it should become invasively multi-player, I just think that a little more fun may be able to be squeezed out of the game if there was a multi-player option available, even if it were only a mod and that only anyone who had the mod installed could even play multi-player together. Actually, it brings up a good point, that the multi-player feature would basically work like and ESP file. Only the people who had ever installed it could use it and at any given time it can either be disabled or completely un-installed.

That mod looks to be on the right track but after reading the features looks like it still needs a lot of work. Its on its way though. I have no intention or desire to ruin the experience of any player with this if they never wanted to play multi-player. I simply desire to enhance my own experience in every way possible. I like the idea. :)

Skyrim online project I believe was abandon sometime ago I know they had a ton of sync issues. Long as you have an separate option for it and doesn’t effect the single player experience I'm not against it. Multi-player isn’t really foreign to elder scrolls you had BattleSpire I realize that it was an spin off elder scrolls title but still an elder scrolls non the less

I for one am against TES multiplayer for numerous reasons.

Mod compatibility is a big one, as you would either have to use a server host with the mods loaded, or both(all) players would need identicle mod lists.

The open world is also a major issue. Multiplayer RPGs really hinge on the regional cell mechanic to prevent players from wandering too far from each other. In TES, what's to keep you from being I. Falkreath while your partner is in Winterhold? If you need to be together to change zones, the world is so large is can be a frusteratinv. Wait, and if yiuvdont it essentially give you half the things to do.

Then how do you handle quest and decision making: How about interactions?

Story problems also arrise, but I have yet to see any multiplayer supporters which seem to care about that...

Frankly, unless they can solve all the inherent problems with the idea, it'd rather it not even be considered. By all the models currently used, it would require greater linearity and less depth, or exclude the ability for mods, neither ofbwhoch are acceptable.

Besides, it's nice to actually have a single player game, when everyone else is pushing co-op and multiplayer for no reason other than they can.
