my monitor says "no signal" then counts down from 15 to 0 and shuts down. it does this when i shutdown my pc.

oh and i forgot im running version 1.2.0416 the newest

and my video card is a nvidia geforce6600

What are the rest of your specs? How much memory does that card have? It is old...

Edit: You video card does not meet the recommended system specs for Vanilla Oblivion, and you are running OOO...and Harvest Flora, and your load order could be fixed a bit.

Load Ordering - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/finishinstall/loadorder

Harvest Flora - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2037 <-- the version included with OOO is not the latest, and it is buggy

Also take the card out of your computer and see if it has any dust bunnies in the fan or heatsink. Blow it out with a can of air and consider getting a newer card. That one is probably choking on Oblivion.

two possibilities

1 - older video card is having air circulation problems and Oblivion is overstressing it - or its just getting old

2 - had this happen with a monitor - internal wiring problem - needed new monitor.

So now to tease out the cause

does this happen on any other video intensive applications?

does this happen if you leave the monitor running on any display intensive applications (not video card stressing, but for instance - displaying a Movie for 2 hours?)

First, check the obvious. Is the video cable plugged in tightly? A loose cable can cause drop outs.

Then do as the others suggested. Make sure the fan is running on the card and that there is no dust clogging it up. Reseat the card.

If possible, try a different monitor. If the problem goes away it's the monitor.

Now, look at your power supply. Is it failing? the video card is probably the most sensitive part in the computer to voltage drops.

The card is old. The recommended specs for Oblivion for NVIDIA are 6800 or better.

I'm sorry to contradict you but that's untrue. If you read the Oblivion Readme that comes with the game (in the root directory) you'll see the lowest supported are these and upwards. Recommended is different. The game will play, and very well, with a lower spec card as I mention below. Lower specs than the "supported" cards will need extra help, like Oldblivion.

NVIDIA GeForce 6600 series

NVIDIA GeForce 6200 series

NVIDIA GeForce FX series

Before I upgraded my system last year I was running the game with OOO and MMM plus a heap of hi res texture replacers, including bodies, and other mods that add NPC's.

I was using a GeForce 6600NX 256mb at the time with a single core CPU, and 1gb RAM, and all I had to do was lower view distance and have shadows turned off. I rarely had issues or crashes of any kind, running the game on large textures.

Edit: You video card does not meet the recommended system specs for Vanilla Oblivion, and you are running OOO...and Harvest Flora, and a bad load order.

Tomlong54210 - You seem to have a fixation on load order in this and other threads. If you look you'll see aznwarlord is using the standalone version of Harvest Flora and the correct esps. His/her load order looks fine except there should be a Bashed Patch. But that's another story.

@ aznwarlord:

What bben46 suggests is more likely your problem and solution.

I do think "bad" seems a little strong because only the LE plugins need to be moved. The source I was looking at did not show the 6800 being a recommended card, but the official Elder Scrolls sight does. I made a mistake. Still, that load order does not need a bashed patch.

Edit: The version of Harvest Flora included with OOO is buggy, and the bug causes crashes. Also, if you open the OOO archive, you will notice that it contains Harvest Flora ESPs of the same name as those that are in the OP's list. (I have it in a folder on my desktop to reference when I am helping other users or checking my docs.) You cannot tell which version of HF is being use by looking at that load order. The difference between the versions is 3.0.0 (which is the version bundled with OO) and 3.0.1 (the latest), a difference which is not even reflected in the latest plugins' descriptions. Therefore, not even the Wrye Bash LO allows us to distinguish between the two.
