Tomlong54210
Quad-core feels so useless D: Ive got a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel processor, 3GB RAM (always told myself that I was gonna get 4GB, but too lazy :P), 500 GB hard drive, 1GB GeForce 240 vid card (only had a $50 vid card budget, so that was a pretty awesome deal)That is a nice system, but there are very few systems (that a normal consumer would have) that can run your LO at max settings. If you have texture replacers and whatnot installed, even fewer. Which quad core runs at 2.5 GHz? Regardless, that core speed is not going to put out great FPS with that load list. If you are satisfied with the performance, that's your choice. Edit: If you had 4GB or more RAM, you could apply the LAA patch, which would help with stability, but that load list is simply intense. I could point out some of the AI adders that are not required (for FCOM) that could help reduce the stress, but if you like your more lively Oblivion at the cost of performance (and possible stability) that is your choice to make. SkullKnight
Sometimes the game gets rather stuttery, especially when large numbers of actors get involved in a fight, which isnt uncommon with FCOM. Im thinking about ditching the crowded cities after all because it wont be helpful at all if a fight breaks out in downtown IC. If you know of any ways to possibly boost performance, I can take a look and see if I like it. An obvious solution would be to lower my texture res or screen resolution, but removing some unneeded and demanding mod features is a good place to start as well. And...whats the LAA patch? And...whats the LAA patch?Lowering your texture rez is actually almost not an option with FCOM, and those are not the kind of optimizations that I would bother mentioning with your system. For the LAA patch, you should have at least 4GB RAM, so forget about it for now. Do not reference Albertine's guide until you have explored the optimization options suggested in that post. If you still want to try to boost your performance afterward, you may want to try his guide. It goes beyond the scope of Oblivion (i.e., tweaking your GPU config) and you should have a non-tweaked base with which to compare the effects of those tweaks. SkullKnight
I turned off Crowded Cities 30, installed low-poly grass, and installed the optimized distant land. I did a quick test outdoors on the road, and it feels smoother without much of an effect on visuals. Ill do some more testing tomorrow to see how it all works out. Ill do some more testing tomorrow to see how it all works out.If you want slightly better visuals, short grass should reduce them less. Optimized Distant Land MAX is supposed to make a large change with little loss of visual quality, and I have always felt that that mod does a great job of it. Let me know what your FPS ranges are, in and outside of the city. As I said earlier, do not expect max frame rates or anything. If you can play Oblivion with that load order between 20 and 30 FPS (capped with SL and/or OSR) you are doing well. That system may even be able to pull higher frame rates outside with PyFFI added or something. Real Load Orders - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/runoblivion/loadorders <-- I am not just pulling these numbers out of thin air, haha. SkullKnight
So I installed OSR and set the fps target range to 20-30. Does that mean my SL fps range should be set as 21-26? (to make sure it stays within OSR's range even with the +3 fps for combat situations)
Tomlong54210
Yes, as long as it is no greater than OSR's range, that is fine. Why did you raise the floor of the OSR range? You should probably just leave the default alone. Edit: The minimum should be close to the actual minimum FPS you see while playing.
SkullKnight
Hmmm now Im getting a weird problem with all of my script effect spells being treated as hostile and getting me arrested whenever I cast them on an NPC. I think FCOM changes something about script effect spells (OOO has something that changes script effect spells I recall), and Im pretty sure thats causing it. Is there any way I can make an override that makes specific spells always considered non-hostile? These spells were intended to be non-hostile and this really breaks their usefulness. Tomlong54210
That is not how FCOM is supposed to function. Please, post your load order (with Wrye Bash). Did you see what I posted about OSR?
SkullKnight
How exactly does the game determine if a spell counts as an assault? I set OSR back to its original settings (fps range 10-30). I dont think Ill get much more testing in until tomorrow.
