Gary2288
I am trying to play vanilla fallout with 1.7 patch, The problem is when i click new game it freezes before the next slide appears in the background then exits to the desktop with a message box saying fallout3.exe has encoutered a problem etc.I'm sure most of you have seen this problem before and i've looked around to see if i can find some way of fixing this and haven't found any that work yet. This is just a brief list of descriptions, they wil make sense if you know the fix they came from, this is just so you wont have to go through the trouble of posting things i have already tried. I googled the problem and found a codec solution that involves disabling all codecs then enabling some of them untill you find the one causing the problem but none of the codecs caused the problem, Tried updating all sound and video drivers and even the bios itself but that didn't fix the problemFound another post about the k-lite codecs so installed them then found out from the official site that fallout3.exe needs to be in the ffdshow exceptions, so i looked at that but it was already in the list so that wasn't causing the problem.I did clean installs of everything (Game and os) and a disk defrag but still no luck, some times after these it would load for a bit longer but always crashes at some point. Tried all different settings for the game and disabled audio, same problem.Tried using Fomm to bypass the normal launcher.Read about running in compatibility mode, Still nothing.Audio is set to 2 channel so it isn't the 3d sound problemEvent viewer says this: Faulting application fallout3.exe, version 1.7.0.3, faulting module fallout3.exe, version 1.7.0.3, fault address 0x006ddf7b. So i'm pretty sure it's down to my computer itself, one thing i always noticed while looking round was it has problems with asus/realtek which is what my computer has, motherboard is the P5G41-M using on-board sound.Running xp, intel dual core processor 2.8ghz, Usng on-board graphics. i know this is a pretty long list but i thought i'd list every fix i had tried so the thread didn't get filled with loads of "Try this.." "Thanks but didn't work" posts,Pretty sure i got everything, has anyone else had all this happen and got it working in the end or should i just give it up and go back to the 360 version? (Yes i have both, got the 360 one first then the pc version because i wanted to get into modding the game) If there's any other information that would help please ask and i'll sort it out for you as soon as possible. Thanks
Fonger
On-board graphics too could be that but can't get a graphics card as money is tight at the moment but it's normally able to run things at normal settings so not fantastic looking but could be worse and never cause problems before but frankly that doesn't really say much as there's nearly always one program that won't aggree with something in your computer as this whole scenario has proven. difficult to read your post you seem to be saying A and not A exist simultaneously On Board Graphics are sufficient to cause the problem but What is the problem? Gary2288
I have removed that part you have qouted as i see it's pretty confusing in the way i wrote it, i was very tired at the time of posting and it did read like i wassaying the on-board graphics aren't the problem but actually they are, i have also tried to edit the text to make it a bit easier to read but i don't know what was making it hard to read, the way it was written or the way it was set out, i find because of me using my tv as a monitor i have to zoom in on the webpage to see the text but this usually means that when i post on forums it is set out perfect on my computer but when someone else looks at it, it looks all over the place. Quick update, tried setting pagefile to 0mb but that didn't work either. Edited May 19, 2010 by Gary2288
Gary2288
Ok so after pretty much giving up on trying to fix this i tried one last install, Now instead of freezing after i press new game it instead comes up with a pink screen and crashes, so now its having problems with the graphics so trying to figure what has changed to cause this problem, think i'm just gonna give up on it and wait till i can try it on a different computer.
