Examining Actors/Objects

Recently I came across the mod RefScope and I really liked the idea of being able to highlight a target and examine it for information. However, RefScope provides more technical information aiding in debugging mods, and information can be freely acquired. I think it would be cool if an examining system was made to provide relevant game information about a target, but with some limitations to keep it balanced.

 

Perhaps the player could hold down the "Examine" key and select an actor to view information such as level, health, magicka, fatigue, fighting style, etc. to help plan fighting encounters. However, the amount of information acquired would be based on the stats of the player calculated against the stats of the target. This way it would be easier to view the stats of weaker opponents than stronger ones, to prevent the feature from being overpowered.

 

The same concept could be applied to objects such as containers. With high enough skill, a player could peer into a locked container and determine what types of items are inside, item weight, or perhaps he/she could determine the identity of one of the items. Or maybe a person could determine with enough skill what key is needed to open a certain door or chest.

 

Just throwing some ideas out there, tell me what you guys think of it.
