LHammonds
How to test without textures? You can't really. But you can create some temporary textures very easily as placeholders just to check it out ingame. Your model must 1st have a UV Map and you need to attach an image (can be a simple 100% black image but the dimensions need to be in a power of 2 for DirectX format...such as 512x512, 1024x128, etc.) You did not mention what modeling tool you use. If you are using Blender, here is a video tutorial on how to properly attach an image to your model for proper export to NIF format: Adding Textures You can use Paint.NET to make a 512x512 (or whatever basic shape your UV Map was designed for) image and save it to DDS format. I believe you can also create a quickie Normal Map in the Effects --> Stylize --> NormalMapPlus. Be sure to save the normal map to your texturename with _n.dds at the end. When in doubt, create the DDS as DXT5 and include MipMaps. Example: sword.dds - Plain old texturesword_n.dds - Normal Map I uploaded this Hook Sword model with a VERY basic texture that will work in-game but is just for testing purposes just like you are looking to do. EDIT: I cannot help you with details on 3DS Max but I believe the process I described would be the same. LHammonds
