Impytus
I know there is a lot of documentation out there about how to use bodyslide and outfit studio, and it seems fairly easy to just walk myself through tutorials and get to an end result. But I'm really struggling to grasp the fundamentals of what exactly the process is doing. There seems to be a log of jargon thrown around and almost every mod seems to have a list of other mods that their mod is incompatible with.... but they never say why? what is it about each mod that conflicts with another? I feel understanding this is probably core to understanding whats going on. anyway.. I have a few questions I hope somebody can help fill me in. But first I should start off by saying I just recently started playing Skyrim.. I immediately downloaded the CBBE and have been using that. Upon realizing that there are so many different incompatible body shapes besides CBBE ive been trying to get myself familiar with Bodyslide and outfit studio. I've been trying to work out how to make a few conversions. from.. whatever... to CBBE, (since at this point it seems to make sense to stick with CBBE). Naturally im playing a female character, and naturally a lot of armor customizations ive downloaded to convert show a lot of flesh, something to keep in mind.... anyway here goes: Is Bodyslide completely standalone?a lot of tutorials seem to direct me to using Nifskope somewhere at the end. Others don't. If Bodyslide is standalone what is Nifskope doing that Bodyslide doesn't? What is the point of building your own preset?I half know the answer here, and the question is a little misleading since I know what it does. I played around the sliders until I found a configuration I was happy with for my character. saved the preset, and clicked build..... And now my naked character walks around with a body that.. pretty much matches my sliders. then I put some armor on her... and 'BOOMF!'... she suddenly just changed shape.... but wait... I put a different piece of armor on and... that one seems to be ok..and shes now back to the configuration i previously chose. BOTH claim to be CBBE compatible. yet what is one doing that the other isn't?I was under the impression that building your own preset meant that any CBBE armor would automatically adjust to the slider settings to what you have on your character and thus fit perfectly. Was that false naivety? It seems to happen in some case at least. Is my preset even still CBBE?Is CBBE the name for the specific set of values/sliders to make the shape that is known as CBBE.... or is it something else? Is armor put on bodies, or is armor the body?Slightly confusing I know. Im trying to get the mindset of how it works. When we look at a character are we looking at separate armor pieces on a body? or are we looking at a set of armor pieces that just happen to look human? (or elf.. or vampire.. or.. etc....) The reason I ask this question is Im trying to understand if the body skin needed or not when you export your armor from outfit studio?Ive realized that if i leave out the skin.. or.. in other words do not copy the 'baseshape' into my model before exporting it, the character appears invisible with only the armor pieces showing. But copying the 'base shape in (what I'm presuming is the default CBBE sliders) seems only to cause the above mentioned 'BOOMF!' problem, changing my configured preset build into the regular CBBE shape.Am I missing something? What is the connection between bodyslide and outfit studio? So far Ive only been using the Bodyslide as a means to open outfit studio. Once Im in outfit studio i export my.nif and i dont touch Bodyslide again until I need to close and reopen. Some tutorials seem to suggest I should be doing something other but Ive failed to make the connection as to why. What am I missing? Thats about all I have to ask for now.Would really appreciate somebody explaining it all to me.Would happily voice chat about it too if it helps. Thanks Edited September 1, 2014 by Impytus
Dibthelegend
Q1. Bodyslide is completely standalone. nifskope is for editing properties of a .nif file such as glossiness, while bodyslide handles the shape. Q2. A bodyslide preset of sliders must be applied to each armor, as every armor contains its own body mesh. Q3. It is still considered CBBE because of the UV maps of the textures still aligning. Q4. As stated above, each armor is completely its own model. it is not an overlay on to the naked body. Q5. Bodyslide is a simpler tool designed to simply create and build a body. Outfit studio is a more powerful tool that allows you to load both a reference and an outfit, in order to have a more hands-on approach to altering/converting the model. Impytus
So what you are saying is in order to have all my armor and body scaled to my preset configuration.. i need to somehow convert them all to it and not just to the standard CBBE high and low? How do i do that?
Dibthelegend
There are tutorials that will explain better than I am able or willing. But yes you need to convert them all to your slider presets.

Impytus
After having struggled past that. and overcoming it.... Im now trying my hand at modelling some armor.... (being a 3d artist by profession I need no help with that part).... what I do need help with is..... how does it work? Is it as simple as making the model (i downloaded the nif plugin), exporting it, loading it up in bodyslide outfit studio and then following procedure as normal.... or? because so far when Ive tried that outfit studio keeps crashing when i export to nif.. or try to save project. When i load the newly created nif into nifskope, that also seems to read loads of errors..... Ive tried looking at tutorials but none of them seems to relate directly to bodyslide 2 and all of its snazzy features that shoudl in theory save a lot of work from the old methods i keep reading about. Any help?
Jeir
If you look in the BodySlide Forums tab, you'll find all the available tutorials for Outfit Studio. You can also have a look at the CBBE mod list (CBBE Forums tab) for outfit mods that are already BodySlide-compatible.
DarthVoidz
I'm having the exact same difficulty with his second question. I have no idea what I'm doing.
