TheOriginalEvilD
Here we go....i'm a die hard small guns nut....a sniper at heart 100%. Nothing is more satisfying to me than a head shot at the max draw distance...one shot one kill. That said, i feel like energy weapons are extremely watered down. They just don't seem as lethal to me. I also can't stand the look of them, and i hate how the plasma rifles projectile looks...it's just dumb looking. So...am i missing something or...? The same thing goes with big guns...i can't get into playing with a rocket launcher or a minigun...all that wasted ammo. But...this round lets stick to energy weapons. Give me the pros (since i seem to already know the cons).
evilneko
Pros: Lasers are zero spread. You aim, you hit. Every single Enclave you kill, be it officer, soldier, or even scientist, will provide you with ammo. Many of them will provide you with a weapon, too. And let's face it: you kill a lot of Enclave. And it's true: vanilla energy weapons pretty much do suck, aside from the alien stuff (both vanilla and Zeta). Thus, I suggest two mods for enhanced Energy Weapon enjoyment: Laser Sniper Rifle Final (LSR) and Automatic Energy Weapons (Skullmosher's Laser Pack). The latter mainly for the fact that it pretty much doubles laser damage, not so much for the actual automatic lasers. With those two mods, I think you'll find the precision and lethality of laser weapons to your liking. For aesthetic upgrades, there's always EVE and the Wattz laser weapons mods, though I dislike the scope on the Wattz rifle and would rather have iron sights. If you find ammo to be a pain, you could try the Solar Charger, or the Echo Battery Charger. Plasma? What's that?
TheOriginalEvilD
What i'd really like are some realistic looking energy weapon mods...none of this crazy scifi looking bright colored anime looking laser rifles...i want something that looks like our current military built it, as in black meshes and not looking like a big square hair dryer, but more like a modern modified assault rifle that houses the energy weapon ammo. evilneko
Well, the Wattz rfile does look very rifle-y. Square's not really an implausible shape for a laser though, it's a highly functional form, if a bit boring. What are some examples of energy weapons you think look good? Blasters a la Star Wars? They look fairly military. PPGs a la Babylon 5 (er, not the ones in the pilot mind you...)? I'm sure if you trawled the weapons category you'd find something good. Burbinator
If you are using WMK, an autofire kit makes A-23's plasma rifle the highest dps weapon in the game. It has a higher effective range than an autofire combat shotty, as well as potentially larger clip IIRC. A lot of unique energy weapons are very easy to get. Replicated man: you can find all the info you need in rivet city, then go down the street to Pinkerton's for A-23's plasma rifle. Superhero thing: go to mechancics base, skip the robots if you want, then just make sure the ants dont kill him (pretty easy) for protectron's gaze. Citadel: lyon's private safe, get smuggler's end. also remember that the guass rifle from OA is probably the #1 sniping weapon, not counting mods. MZ weapons are ofc the highest damaging weapons, non modded. If you use FWE, then energy weapons all have a much higher crit % and damage. I believe the same is SOMEWHAT true of vanilla but honestly, vanilla guns are kinda poo in balance and I dont' think bethesda put a whole lot of effort into making it consistent. If you are using vanilla, then I agree that energy weapons are kinda bad. But why use vanilla? also highly support using EVE. Revamps all unique energy weapons, making them more useful, plus adds a few more high end ones.
TheOriginalEvilD
I guess i need to look into one of the energy weapon overhaul mods or take things into my own hands with the geck. It doesn't help that i use some amazing small gun mods that have zero or very low spread so for me accuracy isn't much of an argument. Reading the Wiki it really seems that FO3 falls short of the glory that energy weapons are supposed to have...someone should really make a mod that makes them much more rare and powerful...but then again by the time you encounter the Enclave it wouldn't matter how rare they are since logically all of them would be carrying them. Right now i have so many plasma and laser weapons stock piled that i've stopped selling them..i just dump them in storage. My current character has over 80k caps and i have so much ammo i don't think i'll ever run out. What i really want is a nice sniping rifle with a scope. I've searched the nexus and can't find any that are scoped except one that i honestly thought looked dumb (i won't bother saying which one, out of respect). Burbinator
Or EVE and WMK, which lets you put autofire weapon kits on energy weapons among others?
