KotN armor replacer

I spent a lot of time wearing my hand out clicking the models in the CS for all five levels of every piece of armor in the Knights of the Nine expansion, light and heavy, male and female, when to my chagrin, I tried to save my work and name it NotN armor replacer and the CS just sat there grayed out with the Vista "I'm working on it" circle going forever. After 2 cigarettes and a cup of coffee, I came back and the circle was still there. I finally closed it out. When I started my OBMM, it said that it was an invalid file or not a valid .esp file or whatever....I can't remember now cuz I was pissed. It still showed up in my .esp list after all this, so I figured "What the hell?", checked it and started the game.....nothing....still the old ugly NotN armor and sword. I was just trying to make a mod that replaces the nif files in the CS to ones I wanted. I have done it before with other mods. I went to each piece and clicked on the biped, world and icon.....navigated to the ones I wanted to use and moved to the next one. When I was done, I hit the save icon in the CS and named my new .esp....but it didn't work.

After much cursing, I said "What the hell", changed the nights.esp to active and just did the helmet to see if that works. It worked in every way except for that when I put the helmet on, it is laying sideways on my shoulders without my head in it. I was like "WTF?" "Did I accidentally click the _gnd file?" I went back and checked every one and nope....the gnd model was where it was suppose to be and the biped slot had the correct .nif file in it. I dropped the helmet on the ground and it looks right, but when I try and wear it, it lays sideways on my shoulders....grrrrr.... :verymad:

The only thing I can think of is that this is an official Bethesda plugin and there is a step or two you have to do to mod these. Could someone enlighten me about this please?

I don't know the solution, but I've seen this bug before. There was an edited version of the Daedric armor for females (search UFF and you'll find it) that did that, and a patch was made for it. You might be able to look at the fix for that and see if you can figure it out. If not, I'm sure someone will be along to point you to a relevant tutorial or page about it soon.

Edit: Here it is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13702

Edit 2: On second thought, maybe I am thinking of a different mod. I do know I've seen that bug before, I'm just not sure what causes it.

Can anyone else tell me what I am either doing wrong or not doing to just make an .esp armor replacer for the Knights of the Nine? I see others have modded the armor and made female versions of it that work. If I find this fix, the helmet on sideways issue will be a non issue. I don't understand what is wrong. I made an armor replacer to replace the ugly Imperial Dragon armor you get "made for you" at the end of the main quest and that works fine.

When I am having this kind of problem I will thin down my data file as much as I can. I have used the blank.esp included with Wrye Bash as the active file. Some mods prevent the CS from working properly. I have found the CS is glitchier than Oblivion.

I did an armor replacer for the Imperial Dragon Armor that is your reward armor for finishing the main quest. It is a retexture of the blades armor and it works fine. I did the exact same method to change the helmet of the KotN armor and it looks like this....(No, I did not accidentally put the gnd file in the biped slot lol) The Imperial Dragon armor helmet works fine/normally.

Thanks for trying to help. I figured it out for myself. The CS still won't make a replacer .esp, but I am able to over write the original. That is a pain to put back to stock if you want to change later.....but do-able if you keep the originals.
