DLC Trouble

Alrighty, now recently I started playing Fallout 3 again, and -hell- it is fun. Then I said to myself, "Self, do you remember what Fallout 3 was like when you modded it?" And myself said "Why yes, I do." And I started drooling. Anyways, I just put up all the nessecary boring stuff, ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, Fallout Script Extender, Fallout 3 Mod Manager all that fun stuff, and then I opened up FOSE to take a look and realized that none of my DLC is working. Now, I spent good money on this, (I purchased it over Windows Live), so I really would like these official "mods" to work in harmony with any other mods I download. So, I type in google a few times, searching for a solution and I get one. It says, go to Windows Live folder, go to DLC folder, copy, paste. Now, in the DLC folder, (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\XLive\DLC\425307d6).....(please tell me if that's the wrong folder)....I have 5 folders whose names are a bunch of random letters and numbers, which I am supposing are the DLC. They're each about 6 KB. Now, I open one, and it has a nice little icon (for instance one I opened had the icon for the achivement for completeing Mothership Zeta), an empty folder called "content", a security folder called content, an "XBX" file and an LIC file. Now, I have no freaking idea what any of those do or are meant to, mind you, but I'm supposing they're important. Now, back to the five folders whose names are random letters and numbers. So I copy paste them into the Fallout 3 data folder, and viola....nothing. It doesn't appear in the Fallout 3 mod manager, in the Data Files thing on the main menu, Downloads, nothing. -think- I'm doing it wrong. So, after reading my long block of text, can anyone help me?

I think you may have gone one folder to deep. You should be in the "...\DLC" folder. Inside there you should see "Anchorage.esm, BrokenSteel.esm, PointLookout.esm", etc. It is those files that need to be moved to the data folder. there are also various .bsa files that need to be moved also.

If you have not done so already, you might need to become able to see hidden folders/files.

overload1977 has an explanation on how to do this, if you don't know how. I'm assuming you have XP so I quoted that part of his post.

Make sure you have "Show Hidden Files" checked off, or you won't be able to see the folder.

For XP:

You can make this change in any Windows Explorer window by going to Tools Menu, Folder Options, View Tab and about 4 options down, under Hidden Files, choose Show Hidden Files. Note, this change will allow you to see System Files and other things that are best not messed with, so you may want to undo this change after moving the file.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

EDIT: Did you check to make sure the DLC's worked before downloading FOMM and FOSE? Silly question, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

you need to move the files from the live locations

to the data folder to use FOSE which hates live.

* FOSE is incompatible with Windows Live, so when running via fose_loader.exe, Live will be disabled. As Live operates as a cheat-detection tool similar to Punkbuster or VAC, FOSE's in-memory modifications are inherently incomptible. Don't worry about being banned or anything like that, everything still works when running Fallout normally. To download DLC, launch fallout3.exe directly instead of via the loader. After downloading the DLC, you will then need to move the DLC files in to the Fallout data folders to use them like any other mod.

I have hidden files shown. In the DLC folder, there are two files, "4d530901", and "425307d6".

And holy crap I don't think they were working before I put on the FOSE and FOMM. They -definatley- are downloaded, but they weren't working. Question mark?

Not sure you saw my edit, but did you make sure everything worked before you installed FOMM and FOSE, as in the DLC's worked with vanilla Fallout? Reason being, it sounds like those files aren't where they ought to be.

EDIT: Alright, are you running XP?

Did you download through windows live, steam, or did you install form a disk?

When you were installing did it ask for a location, and if so, did you change the destination from the original?

EditEdit: Did you download the actual files, or their installers?

Yes, I am on XP. I downloaded Fallout 3 through Steam. When I was installing Fallout 3 did it ask for a location? No, it just did the regular Steam install thing. Clicked, showed me memory usage, started downloading.

EDIT For the DLC, I really don't remember it being this complicated before I uninstalled Fallout. Before, it auto-detected all of the files, and I was hunky-dory. Now, it seems, is different.

EDIT EDIT I don't know if I installed the files or installers. I think it was the files, because I don't remember going through installation.

I'm not familiar with how a steam installation affects FO3. The files you are after might be buried in Steams stuff instead of where you've been told to look.

What you might want to do is a search for any files called anchorage on your hard drive. Assuming you have the .esm files installed (which I would think Steam would have done) it will show you those files.

Just look into your C: drive hit ctrl+f and it will bring up the search fields. when it shows a file right click it and select "open containing folder." It might be phrased slightly differently form what I typed, but this should get you to the files to be moved.

If it can't find anything you might have to reinstall/redownload the DLCs.
