Ren Mystic Elf textures (and other custom races using them)

Recommended Posts

I installed the Midas Magic Companions mod and noticed that the girls in the mod (specifically Zoe and that Wolf Elf girl) have messed up body textures.

I found out that both of them use the textures of Ren's Mystic Elves, and I found out that none of the female Mystic Elf textures work either. As I'm not using that race much anymore, I didn't know about the problem until I actually checked by creating a new Mystic Elf.

The reason for this is that I'm using HGEC Body mod, and I did read that the Mystic Elf race uses some vanilla normal mapping, or whatever, and that's the reason the textures don't work. The problem is: I've tried Ozmo's High Rez texture pack, and numerous other texture packs for Ren's Mystic Elves which should alter the textures to work with HGEC Body Mod. I've spent quite a few hours trying to fix this annoyance now, and to no avail. It's starting to look like the game can't read the files in the .../textures/characters/Ren... folder for some unknown reason, since I tried renaming the Ren folder and it changed actually nothing. I've also tried renaming the normal Imperial texture files and putting them into the Ren folder; that didn't help.

Is there ANY way to fix this? I've run out of creative solutions.

Thanks.

Also, screenshot of the problem (hopefully no one is offended by this  ):

[EDIT] Seems someone at ImageShack didn't really like my nipple-tastic screenshot. :ninja:

I believe I had the same problem when I was doing a make over of the Heart of the Dead mod for Wintermoon. I wanted to put different sexier armor and clothes on her and was like ewww with her nasty skin texture from the neck down. I use the HGEC body mod but this works. It is a texture mod for exnems so it will look a tad different proportion wise from HGEC, but them being a different race makes that OK. It is FAR better than how it was before. Here is the link to the hi-rez mystic elf texture......I hope this solves your problem. This first link is for the non-tattoos that I use....If you click on files, you will see a download for Ren's Mystic elves there.

The first 2 SS are of her skin messed up. The last one has is fixed using the textures from link #1.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check this out. Will report back if it works, since I've tried numerous different texture files and none have worked so far.

EDIT: No help, I just don't get it. I installed both properly, but the textures still show up as a mess. It really seems like the game reads the textures from somewhere else, since even removing the Ren folder does nothing... I checked the CS for the path of the texture files the races are using, and they are in the Ren folder, so it just makes no sense. And I can't really change them, since that makes my game freeze for some reason.

EDIT2: Well, I renamed the whole ...textures/characters/ folder to charactersdfjkldfjkldjd. This resulted in most of the custom races having weird negative coloured skin, but the mystic elf race still had the normal skin. Where the hell is the game getting these texture files? The CS shows it should load them from the damned Ren folder...

The body textures still show up, so the game must be getting them from somewhere else than the Ren folder.

If you want to know the textures the race uses, open the plugin with Construction Set(or other tools that can read .esm/.esp), check the body textures, especially foot texture(because most of body replacers use foot texture to wrap around whole body). Look at the path(I think using tool like TES4Edit would be better than CS to check it out), then copy the texture you want under the directory(if there's none, you have to make it).

Yeah, I did this. The problem with the Construction Set is that it doesn't show the full path inside the button, but it shows like

[s/Ren/Ren_MysticE]

So the whole path doesn't fit inside the button. I'll try checking with Tes4Edit.

Sorry for double post, something weird happened here while I was editing my last post.

So I'll do this here then: I did check the path with Tes4Edit, and it shows the path should be

"Characters\Ren\Ren_MysticElf\Female\RenFootFemale.dds"

And the path on my computer is

"D:\Pelit\Oblivion\Data\Textures\characters\Ren\Ren_MysticElf\Female\RenFootFemale.dds"

Surely the reason isn't just a lower case c in the word characters?

Somethings buggy here, since renaming the characters folder didn't do anything to the body textures of the race.

I have the same problem as you with the mystic elf textures, both with the female texture for hgec and with the male texture for Roberts Male Body Replacer. It's like the textures don't align properly. This is unfortunate, because I really like the mystic elf. If I knew how to use nifscope or blender, I could probably fix the problem (looks like the texture is simply aligned incorrectly). However, it turns out that I have been dedicating my free time lately learning how to mod, so fixing this will be one of my first projects.

Good luck with that

I just remembered that I actually had this same problem a long time ago (two years back?). I had it fixed with the Hi-Rez texture pack I'm using now, but unlike then, now it doesn't work. I thought maybe it's because I switched to Windows 7, which might be interfering with the game loading the textures. Could be a far-fetched theory, though.. :teehee:

I actually haven't checked the Male Mystic Elf version, and I'm using a body mod for males too (can't recall what it was). I'll check on that.

Meanwhile, anyone with the same problem, and perhaps a fix, could give a heads up here.

Are all the people having problems with this running Windows 7? I am currently using Vista Ultimate and don't have any of these issues. The texture packs applied properly and look great. If that is the case, I will get a different HD for when I get Windows 7 and keep OB on my Vista HD.

Well, at least I am, but it seems unlikely that Win7 would be the problem, since all the other custom races work. I'm using the xRaces compilation or whatever it was with the moonelves, drows and such, and they work perfectly.

I still think the game is somehow trying to get the body texture file from some other folder than the folder it should (the Ren_MysticElf one), because renaming the characters folder did nothing to it. And every race using the Ren files have messed up textures, while every other custom race using their own textures are working properly.

I also tried the archiveinvalidation invalidated mod, just to see if it was the problem, although I didn't believe it to be, because the other races work. Didn't help anything.

I'm out of ideas.
