Gizmok86
I have had fallout 3 on steam since it came out, and for the longest time no problems. Then one magical day I reinstalled it and now no mods/addons I get outside of DLC will work. Tried using FOMM but it keeps muttering this whole thing "System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Users\(User)\AppData\Local\Fallout3\plugins.txt' is denied.". In general all the addons show up, and using data options from the fo3 startup they check, but once i hit okay and go back in they are not activated and unchecked. I have vista which I bet is a problem. Does ANYONE have any idea or knowledgeable fix or work around for this aside from FOSE? If so it would be extremely appreciated. System info:OS:Vista Home Basic 32Intel Core2 Quad cpu 2.40GHz4 gigs memoryDX10Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 P.S. I looked for 4 days now for a fix and nothing. Some hints and idea's and not a thing. I tried running as admin, running as XP, etc.
anokii
No guarantee - but it looks like you right in your guessing about Vista. There are heaps of posts about where to install FO3 when installing under Vista and also the whole UAC thing. From the "description" at the FOMM location; Q. I get the "Unable to get write permissions for fallout's installation directory" error. How do I fix it?A. This happens when you are running Vista or Windows 7 and have installed Fallout 3 in the Program Files folder. You need to do one of the following: * Disable UAC (not recommended). * Move Fallout 3 outside of the Program Files folder (e.g., C:\Games\Bethesda\Fallout 3). This may require a reinstall. I know with Oblivion you could just copy the game folder to a new location, run the game, and all would be well. I'm not sure if that works with Fallout 3. * In theory you should also be able to run FOMM as administrator. You can try this by right-clicking on the FOMM shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator." Alternatively, right-click on the shortcut, select Properties->Compatibility and check "Run this program as an administrator." The best thing to do in order to avoid other problems, and the generally recommended solution, is to install Fallout outside of the Program Files folder. Gizmok86
You practically copy pasted generic response. The problem still at hand is STEAM. I don't believe I can put the games where I want them and if I can I would appreciate an explanation on how. And as far as running fomm as admin, I tried it, tried it in xp comp, as well as every other comp. Nothing happens except it takes another few seconds to load up and I need to click allow.
