Boss, Can I Trust You?

Alright. For a while a swore by BOSS. I always used it to sort my load order. Then I noticed some of my mods weren't working right. I looked into it and noticed that BOSS had ordered Deadly Reflex (a mod well known for being selfish about load order) about a third up from the bottom with nearly twenty mods below it. WTF?! I thought. Is BOSS a NEWB? As soon as I adjusted the load order everything worked fine. But after that experience I no longer trust it to sort my important mods. Honestly if it doesn't know something as simple as DR goes last than it can't be trusted very far... can it?

BOSS is a general guidline for installing difficult mods like FCOM,OOO,RBP that require esp's to be in a specific load order. If the author(s) of Deadly reflex upgrade it, the individuals who are keeping the master list for BOSS have to redo the list to match the new problem(s) reported with Deadly Reflex and every other mod BOSS sorts. That is 8000 mods and counting! Post your problem and your solution in the comments for BOSS, so the next Master list is updated properly. The people who update BOSS do this because they enjoy it,they do not recieve any compensation for thier efforts but Kudos and thumbs up.

The world is flat

everybody knows that

and anybody who thinks otherwise shall be burned at the stake.

Too bad newer information has changed this.

And newer information has changed the BOSS load order for DR

Experienced users have made this change

Guess if you know what you are doing, DR doesn't have to go dead last

But then again

there is the "Flat Earth Society"

that still believes the world is flat

and all evidence to the contrary is part of an elaborate conspiracy

and of course N. Armstrong was a publicity stunt that never really happened.

BOSS can be trusted most of the time. It does make mistakes for the reasons said above, but it's trustworthy.

Another example that it gets wrong:

Bloody Mess has a mod called Armor Shader Supression, which takes away the faint glow about your character when wearing enchanted clothing or armor.

Since Bloody Mess uses a shader to apply blood to you, you will not be bloody when wearing enchanted armor. Ever. Unless you use this mod.

Where does BOSS f it up? Because it puts Amor Shader Supression higher than Supreme Magicka, which affects the enchanted shader.

You need to move Bloody Mess's mods below Supreme Magicka if you want to have blood when wearing enchanted stuff.

I find that BOSS does a fine job with MOST of the mods just like it states in its description. I too had it sort mine and then had to go back after playing for a little while and adjust a couple of mods. I was prepared for that since it does say right in the BOSS readme that this might happen. It does help that I am very familiar with my mods and what mod does which thing so I didn't have to guess or do the trial by elimination. I only had to fix 3 mods and 2 of them should have been bashed together in the first place....so I think it is doing a great job......a spectacular job, considering it is free.

Thanks for your opinions. Im new to the modding world so the forums like this really help. And yes, it does seem that BOSS is good with most mods. Since I wrote this I have found it essential to sorting an animation mod with 6-7 esps each with their own dependencies. BOSS does a perfect job of placing them where they need to be in the load order which would take me several minutes without it. I still sort DR, Supreme Magicka, and other highly scripted mods by hand, though.
