Spiiral
Hey Nexus! I have just purchased a copy of Oblivion and all the expansions after completing Fallout 3. I am a mod lover, I can never play a game with standard textures and all that. Getting mods for Fallout were easy as there were no way near as many as Oblivion has. I'm here asking for some suggestions on mods or tell me some of the best mods you use. I'm not looking for texture mods right now as I'm having to use an internet cafe so I cant be here long. But anything like map mods, UI mods, quest helpers.... you get the jist. Thanks again for your help Nexus members!! (I will have to start giving something in return when I get the internet (Only a few more days now!!))
Aurielius
I am sure that there will be many recommendations but I would suggest that you get Oblivion Mod Manager before installing a collection of new mods. An excellent utility that makes installing and removal of mods a walk in the park. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097
Vindekarr
Hi, here is what I'd recomend for starters: OBSE from timeslip, this is the building block for all the tech heavy oblivion mods, a must have. Obmm a device that lets you run self installing "omod" class mods, must have, as some mods, such as the excellent Silver Ranger and DMC_Stylish animation replacers are omod only. lastly, .nifviewer, this isnt something you MUST have but I'd still recomend it anyway, the console spam is well worth the effort of installing it, as it lets you run the very most code heavy mods like UV2. as for the mods themselves for gameplay I really recomend Oscuro's Oblivion overhaul as your basis, the core gameplay changes Oscuro chose to add are dubious enhancements at best, but the huge compilation of truly excellent mods is well worth that cost. a warning though, this may cause some quests to be oncompleteable, also trapps are instant kills regardless of level, and unles you have a very high magic resist, the traps added to chest will fry you, OOO does have some errors in its code, its a good mod, but its a risky mod. next, deadly reflex 5, it requires OBSE to run, but this joyous little bundle of biffo is one of the most polished mods out there, it simply adds to existing oblivion combat by adding severable body parts, smashable skulls, and some fun finsishers like impaling, head-splattering and my personal favorite, a spell that explodes the enemy in a shower of guts, totaly a must-try, and a must have for anyone who enjoys a good brawl. HGEC version 1.21, wether you have a female character or not this is pretty much a standard issue mod, it adds new textures and meshes to make all girls a helluva lot better looking, or if you are in the mood for humor, AHGEC will split your sides, and those of every female character by giving them beasts the size of truck tyres and hips more than 4 feet wide. combine these with IFT by shadytradesman and Facial Textures By Enayla(run those last two as a set, the result is specatacular) or some other facial upgraders for a general texture revamp, as you can easily push oblivion;s textures well beyond fallout 3's, and with a meaty enough pc, even getting near the original crysis' facial detail. if your pc is beefy enough and your tech skills sharp enough, then maybe even add qarl's texture pack to make oblivon into a crysis grade graphical wonderland, but be warned, it takes years to download(ok, a day) and is dificult to install for the uninitiated, as gameplay mods go I recomend Glenvar Castle, its a short funny quest that rewards you with a sprawling fortress to call your own, with a house for a wizard and a lycan/vampire/evildoer/emo down below, easily the best house mod available. akatosh mount by Saidenstorm is a bit of a cheat, but well worth it, it gives you a fully controlable flying dragon to ride. nuff said. lastly, the Dwemer SkyShip by Mr Siikas, is another excellent house mod, but be sure to use the NoQuest version as not only does the quest version not work, but the darn thing is so badly documented that finding the damned cave its in is a quest in itself(spoiler: abandoned cave) but the reward is worth it: a (beautiful) flying fortress home fully armed with cannons for airstrikes when on the ground, a parachute for just cause style base jumping action, and the only fishtank in all cyrodiil. lastly for combat and armor, i cant really recomend much as there is so much to choose from depending on tastes, those fond of bondage will weep with joy at tesnexus' endless row upon row of HGEC compatible "attire" , likewise for those fond of real world swords, as there are dozens of mods available for those, but for me the real standouts are: capes n cloaks by Somebody, adds just that, and its addon, hemingway's capes, the Armamentarium, apophis, armory of the silver dragon, nightknight, myths & legends, and many more are also well worth the effort of making them run. lastly I can recomend that if you to spice up the animation, try Silver Ranger and DMC_Stylish, both are extremely well put together and choreogrqaphed, and add manga style moves, unnecessary violence is another good one, but not compatible with DMC_Stylish or silver ranger, likewise it needs nifviewer and OBSE to run, thats about it really, those are a good introduction.
