MerlinCross
Um, I'm not sure if it should go here, but I've got a problem. Some mods mention a Bethesda folder that they should go into. I don't seem to have one. Will this cause a problem down the road with mods or the game?
Shadowfen
Mods typically go in the Data folder under where Oblivion is installed. The default installation directory for oblivion is (before Vista/Win7): C:\Program Files\Bethesda\Oblivion When you are running on Vista/Win7, most here recommend that you change the installation directory from the default to something else - such as c:\games\Oblivion or something like that. The Data directory that I am refering to are inside the Oblivion folder(s) abov.
MerlinCross
Yeah, that's it. Some mods call for me to put them into the Bethesda Software folder or something. Is this the same as the "Data" folder?

Is this the same as the "Data" folder?no its not OBSE does not go into the data folder Marts Monster Mod goes in the data folder best to follow the directions in the mod and any mod that confuses you probably shouldn't be installed. MerlinCross
Wait, I think I got it. That's just a named folder they made to hold Oblivion. It's not part of the game. Think that's right. Okay, um, another problem, since I have people here. How does OBSE work?
Fonger
How does OBSE work?magic pure magic it changes the scripts of the game and its not a true mod its a game engine modification that's why it doesn't reside in "data"
MerlinCross
Let me put it a different way. And then I may just make a topic about it. Just by putting OBSE with the rest of my Oblivion stuff, it will work. And I mean outside of the data folder. I don't have to do anything else, right? MerlinCross
Start the game. Meaning, I put the disk in, close out the lauch window that does come up, and then use the OBSE laucher instead. Okay, I think I got it. Thank you for your help.
bben46
To get OBSE to work, FIRST read the instructions. It is not a mod and does not install like a mod. The install is slightly different if you use the steam version of the game than if you use a DVD version. It will not work with the D2D version. If you have a pirate version - sorry about that, it probably won't work and pirates get no help here. If you do not have the latest Oblivion patch you will need that also. Once it is installed, you will need to always use the OBSE launcher, or the launcher built into OBMM instead of the Oblivion launcher from the original game. There is nothing else to do. no boxes to check, no options to select, it just works.
