SWGOD794
I cant seem to run OB, as my DVD drive is a rather old one, a 4x. I need an 8x. Insted of paying $100 ,is there a mod that can run slower, sacrificing blowaway graohic content? A mod on a 5 or 6x would be more affordable....,
Switch
I sincerely doubt it. Mods only have the capability to reduce the graphics so that OB will run on below min spec graphics cards. It can't change the nature of the DVD itself. What do you mean $100 by the way? I've seen 16x DVD/CD drives with RW capability going for just £20-30 on Ebuyer.com. It's not a huge bank buster I would think. ^^; Really I would recommend getting a better DVD drive. Oblivion isn't the only game that will need more than 4x speed. Only Im not sure what your currency is compared to mine. Were talkin American $$$. Plus, my friends and anyone ele I ask (that live in this country) Say $100 for an 8x. *SIGH*, I cant find an estimate and am really tired of the drive issue. Not thats its a really big money-sucker, but it still would be a bit much for me, im only a teen and am not old enough to get a job. And my parents say I cant get one on their cash because (lets just say I live on a farm and we show horses. Going out of town for the weekend, paying for horse feed and gas, food, and show entry and participation fees simply cost too much.) they cant spare a moderate amount of money.   PLus, they wont let me take the computer apart just to replace a dvd drive. Theyre paranoid, and Im the one who spent half an hour reading the manual and knowing exactly what to do. Plus, Im the geek of the family, the only one who could figureout how to put the cables in the back, and the only one who knows the Com inside and out!!!! >:( >:( >:(
Switch
In American dollars we're probably talking $60 or so for a 16x. Significantly less for an 8x, methinks. Some shops mark prices up more than others. You might try dabs.com or ebuyer.com, I'm not 100% sure they ship to the US though. If your parents won't even let you install it though, it sounds like you might be a bit stuck. :S Unless you could get someone to come and install it for you. Dilvish
What about an external DVD drive? I'll bet if you do some searching on the web, you can find one cheap. I'll bet you can find a new one for under $50. Maybe a used one that's even lower? Don't give up. Edit: I did a few minutes of searching and found this. Look at item #2. http://www.pricewatch.com/dvd_drives/10344-1.htm
