Nubbutub
Hello, I'm new to modding FO3. I have both the steam version and retail of FO3. Getting to the point, FO3 will run great by its self but when I add just one mod the game crashes on start up. I modded the steam version and worked great but when I added another mod the game crashed on start up then on. I've reinstalled it several times to no avail but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do and I used FOSE and FOMM. I unistalled the steam version of FO3 and bought the retail and the same thing happens. Works perfect with NO mods but when I add just one mod, even a small one it crashes on start up. I can't even launch the game off of FOSE with no mods on or play the DLC ( The Pitt... ext). The mods I had installed before the game started crashing was... ** Ambient Wasteland 2 ** ** Fallout mod manager ( of course ) ** ** FWE - FO3 Wanderers Edition ** ** The SCARABAEUS - Facility ** ** EVE - Energy Visuals Enhanced ** ** ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated ( had to use it for some mods ) ** ** Weapon Mod Kits ** These were working great but when I added... ** 19th and 20th Century Weapons v5 ** The game crashed. Any ideas? Also I tried installing the mod below before any of the mods above and couldn't get that to work. ** NMCs_Texture_Pack_for_FO3 ** I kept getting a corrupt file error so I just gave up trying. I hope this helps and is fixable. Thanks.
Fonger
single most likely cause you missed some part or requirement for '19th and 20th Century Weapons v5' like **Requires CALIBR ; Community Ammunition Library**~If you're not using CALIBR, expect your game to Crash to Desktop upon loading. It's the way it is.

Yeah I can't test that cause I unistalled FO3 and deleted all the mods but if I just wanted to let's say install... ** Ambient Wasteland 2 ** ** FWE - FO3 Wanderers Edition ** ** EVE - Energy Visuals Enhanced ** And... ** Weapon Mod Kits ** What do I need to do? Cause I've tried instillation tutorials and I still can't get the game to run with just one mod going... Oh and what FO3 patch is compatible with FOSE and all the mods? Thanks. I believe FOSE works with every version at the moment but I could be wrong. What is the error you recieve, or does it just crash and bomb out? And revert to desktop with a general windows error message? If its just a general windows errors or no error, means you might be having having a mod conflict, I'd suggest getting the latest patch if you can, try running without any mods, if it doesn't work then, you could try making sure your computer drivers are all up to date. If you can get the game without mods working, you might also like to try changing the load order, I'd recommend aquiring a version of FOMM (fallout mod manager) that'll help a lot when sorting out mods and will usually notify you of mod conflicts if you press a button on the right This is just to make sure you have installed correctly. To install, just get the .rar/.zip/.7z or whatever else, unzip to say a folder in your documents, maybe Fallout 3 Mods. Once there if there are further folders just keep clicking until you reach a data folder. You can just drag that directly to your fallout 3 folder, It'll ask to merge, maybe even overwrite, just say yes or move and replace. ( just so you know you have the right folder that your dragging, inside it there will usually be a .esp file and some other folders usually with the name Meshes and Textures. Okay, I installed the latest patch and the game runs so far with no mods. When the game crashed before it did not give any error message, it just said FO3 has stopped working and that i need to close to program. :\ Should I install the mods through FOMM or the drag n drop way? Plus what did you mean by sorting the mods? How do you sort the mods or know if their in the wrong order? Thank you for helping me.
spheron
As far as I know you can only install with the dragging and drop, FOMM installs .FOMODS which is like a .ZIP except it's just for a fallout mod and makes an esier install. And when I say sort, you can drag the mods above one another, Fallout3.esm always has to be at the top of the list though, to do this you just open FOMM and your list is the thing on the left, just drag mods above or below, you get a read arrow with a line when you do it to say where it'll end up, also you might want to check to see if any of the mods you want have required files, some use other mods resources. I know that FO3 Wanderers Edition, if its not v5.0 needs Calibr and Craft. As for knowing if there in the wrong order, FOMM has a Check for Conflicts button. Don't know if it works properlly or not never used it myself, or other times the authors of mods will post an order in which a mod needs to go. spheron
Here's a load order which should work so in FOMM just make the list look like this (if you don't have DLC that is) Fallout3.esmCraft.esmCalibr.esmFO3Wanderers Edition - Main file.esmWeaponModKits.espEVE [Energy Visuals Enhanced].esp I don't believe Ambient Wastland 2 has an esp because it's just sound files but if I'm wrong it could just go at the bottom I think. Also .ESM's always have to be at the top, they're master files and I do believe if you have any other mods they can go inbetween any of the others unless stated otherwise, aslong as craft goes before calibr, calibr goes before FO3Wanderers and so on. Hopefully that should work, if not just try enabling seperate mods first to see if they all work, then enabling two at a time and so on.

I'll have to try the drag n drop cause I know before I was installing all my mods through FOMM. I do have the DLC, do I just stick that underneath the Fallout3.esm like this? Fallout3.esmThePitt.esmAnchorage.esmBrokenSteel.esmZeta.esmCraft.esmCalibr.esmFO3Wanderers Edition - Main file.esmWeaponModKits.espEVE [Energy Visuals Enhanced].esp And then anything else that is left over just stick under EVE correct? Thanks.
spheron
Yeh that's right and as for anything extra, if its a .ESM then you could put it below FO3Wanderers.esm if its an esp then below EVE. As a rule of thumb if one mod requires another, then it'll go below. Literally think of it like this for example, FO3wanderers Edition needs elements from calibr and craft, there for they'll have to be loaded first, so they'll be nearer to top and FO3Wanderes will be located lower than them. Hopefully it'll all work and you can get playing your game with some cool mods. May I just add since your downloading mods and have DLC, if you aquire FOOK2, it does seem to have a bad effect on DLC, so even though the game loads and all appears well you'll start to get problem between them. You won't have to worry if you dont have FOOK2 but I just wanted to add this since it caused me a save issue and made me have to redo half a DLC. Hope it works and have fun! quicksilverva
I agree spheron wit the missing CALIBR.esm. Most CTD's on start up are usually because of a missing master (.esm). make sure you have all necessary masters before launching FO3 As far as I know you can only install with the dragging and drop, FOMM installs .FOMODS which is like a .ZIP except it's just for a fallout mod and makes an esier install. you CAN install regular mods using FOMM, just use its Package Manager, albeit its not always a perfect install. if you use FOMM to install a regular-joe mod, its best practice (in my opinion) to go back behind it and make sure it installed the files in the right spots. Kaburke has been quite the gentleman and created a vast assortment of FOMOD Scripts.
