cal808
Hi all expert modders!I've been trying multi-player mods and they are either rubbish or don't work so i think it would be a good idea to make one that doesn't connect to premade server but connects like a LAN server ie: between two or more computers.sorry if a request like this has already been posted (i did look before)if not could anyone recommend multi-player mods?thanks
kieranfoy
Been tried. None worked well. It's an unworkable idea.
bben46
The game engine does not support multiplayer. So anything that tries it will be a kluge no matter what. The only really viable solution is to redo the game with an engine that does support multiplayer. And I don't see that happening as any attempt would bring the wrath of Bethsofts lawyers down on the guy that does it - for porting their assets into a different game. ub3rman123
Also, I don't think it would work with the quests. The scripting in some would cause havoc if there were more than one player reference. The levels in a game have to be specially designed for co-op and multiplayer. Too easy to get trapped behind a door in multiplayer with the current Oblivion. Shredator
As said, tried and failed a number of times before. Oblivion is very highly based on single player, with nearly all of the game based on the levels, ranks, and actions of the player. The game would have to be based on a single player's progress, with everyone else leeching information from that player about the game world. Probably the largest problem with it, game engine aside, is that games have to be essentially identical to play with each other. You know how on an Xbox or PS3 you have to install all of the patches before you can play the game online? That's why. As all of us here have our games highly modded, everyone's game is incredibly different. A single mesh difference between two players games would mean graphical glitches and crashes for everyone. So, to work, the other player would essentially have to delete their own oblivion and download the other player's to get all of the mods straight. The idea sounds amazing, but it can only work on a game created with multiplayer in mind.
ub3rman123
I hadn't thought of the mod differences standpoint. So that's why there's no Borderlands modding. Pity.
