PLEASE: If you like this idea, comment, post, talk to me! My requests depend on you keeping this alive!

Hi, all!

Yeah, still with the 40k requests, which is kinda weird since I've never even played.

Anyway, it's a simple request. Just take the Shrouded Armor mesh (UFF for the female if you please) and remove the belt, all the straps and buckles, the kneedpads, all of the jazz!

Then, retexture the armor with the black leather texture found as part of this free pack (I love this pack) : http://webtreats.mysitemyway.com/free-tileable-leather-patterns./ leaving the texture large enough to see.

Then add in the black claws from Slof's demon claws: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24440

Then, take the thief belt from this mod: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26688 and remove everything except the whip. Now, take the whip and retexture it black, and then add this belt to the armor. Balance the whip with an Elven dagger on the other side, a dagger with it's hilt retextured black.

Then, add this symbol to the back (if possible, if not then to the front) in dark grey: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/d/d7/DarkEldar.png Be extra good if it could look burnt into the leather, using Zprospero's wonderful technique.

And then you're done! Thank you for reading!

The armor model to use as the base for the female mesh can be found here: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13106

And some fluff on the Dark Eldar can be found here: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Dark_Eldar

Ciao!

Try WWWWAAAAAGGGHIIIINNNNGGGGG when you're tied to a table with a knife slowly, precisely teasing out your nerve ending and hooking them up one by one to an agonizer.

Not a pretty picture. ;)

Well, my technique is not that difficult or groundbreaking. It's basically using a bump map.

The first thing you must do is open a texture up in GIMP (obviously). I'm using the Legion cuirass for example.

Oh and, for ease, say no to loading mipmaps.

There are a variety of ways you can do the next part, so whatever works best for you, this is what I do.

http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/zprospero/ZBMT002.jpg

1. Create a new Layer

2. The default settings will do, just make sure it's marked as 'Transparency'

3. Position whatever emblem, letters, etc you want on the texture as you want them.

For this part (forgive the self-indulgence) I use the letter 'Z.'

http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/zprospero/ZBMT003.jpg

Then switch to the layer the texture is on (Page Up/Page Down Buttons) and delete it.

The idea is to get a perfectly positioned symbol/text with nothing around it.

Merge the layers together (and hope you followed my advice about the mipmaps or you could be clicking 'merge down' for a while).

Then, copy the whole thing, go to Edit > Paste As > New Image to create an untitled image with only the image you want.

http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/zprospero/ZBMT004.jpg

Then go back to the original and UNDO your changes. Get it back to how it was originally. Even if you have to close and reload it.

Once you have the original texture and the untitled image with only the symbols you want, then, you go to Filters > Map > Bump Map

http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/zprospero/ZBMT005.jpg

Now, here's the important bit. In the Bump Map section click on the 'Bump Map' dropdown and choose your untitled image.

Then you basically play with the sliders until you get it to look how you want. That's more trial and error.

The sliders allow you to make it look raised or sunken.

It's a combination of this, and the texture/image being used that determines the quality of the outcome though,

and you should probably mess with the normal map to accentuate the texture here, but that's up to you.

Here you see the final result:

Nothing spectacular, but it can help you create the illusion of symbols being stamped/or impressed into textures.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions/problems feel free to PM me.

@Kieran

That last bit sounds like it would just make it easier to make a variety of noises.

@Alonsomartinez: Nah, not really. Just mix-en-matching vanilla pieces and some new textures...

Hay, wait, YOU'RE doing it? THE Alonsomartinez? My request is in good, GOOD hands.

@Zprospero: Oh, thank you for posting that tutorial. I have no idea what any of it means, but I've seen the results of it, and it is awesome! I really appreciate you taking the time.

@Captainscar: What, do I look like I'm made out of money? Besides, tabletop playing ain'tmy kinda thing. I watched Damnatus, read the fics, have the Lexicanum in my favorites... what more can you want? I do intend to get a Dark Heresy RP group together one of these days, though...
