dima446
Hello, not too long ago, I installed OBSE. The reason I installed it was because I wanted to get a mod called 'streamline 2.1' I was told that I need OBSE for streamline 2.1. I don't really know so much what OBSE does, or how it works, and I didn't really want it if I didn't frequently use it. I took it off of my computer today and deleted it. I launched Oblivion via the regular Oblivion launcher, and I STILL had the ring on my character and it let me select which way I wanted to run streamline 2.1. So, do I actually need OBSE for streamline to work properly or do you only need OBSE to install streamline? As far as I can tell, streamline seems to be working, but then again, I am no modding wiz, in-fact I am pretty new to it. Thanks in advance for all of the answers! :]
AltreU
The OBSE-Oblivion Script Extender: http://obse.silverlock.org/download/obse_0018.zip and Streamline 3.0: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10400.OBSE is needed for many mods you'll find here. Streamline is useful, helps keep my FPS leveled.
bben46
As long as you don't have a mod that requires OBSE, you don't need it. It runs invisibly in the background so you will never see it anyway. It only does something when a mod that needs is is run. If there are no mods that need it, it doesn't do anything and will not cause any problems. Streamline (v2 or v3.1) is a very good program and has few problems, but several bugs. Yes, it will help keep your FPS up, but at the price of visual effects. Be sure to turn off any high quality visual mods when using it as it will make them useless. It increases your FPS by reducing most of the visual sliders while you play. so when in a heavily visual environment, such as in a wooded region, you will not see as far. objects and actors will vanish in the near distance, ruins etc will vanish until you are very close. and bandits will come out of nowhere already attacking. I also saw several visual anomalies that look like brown walls in the distance - they vanish when you get closer.
