maya 2011 with nif

Hi!

I wanted to ask if I can use the latest maya edition (2011) with the nif plugin. The description of the plugin says " Maya versions 6.5, 7.0, 8.0, 8.5 and maya2009" but are there any hotfixes or something available? I don't want to blender 'cause of the complexity of the interface, hotkeys and stuff and I just don't have the time to learn all those things. All I want to do is to model something.

One idea that crossed my mind is that I could model in maya, but import the mesh itself into blender with the nif plugin and do the weightpainting and stuff right there. But is this possible?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, this should work, just export in a fileformat that blender can import, I do this all the time between the program I use (cinema 4d) and 3ds max. Some advice it to export in a format the ratains the most features similare to your original file. Best of luck.

I'm not sure whether it would work or not- my assumption is that it would work, though you'd occasionally get unfixable glitches because of a change between Maya versions. It should be possible to save a file in the .mb format from 2011 then open it is 2009 to do the necessary conversions, then export through the 2009 plugin. Then again, it's not likely you buy Maya annually.

Exporting to blender works fine though. Export from Maya in an .obj format ((you may need to use a plugin, though I believe one comes with Maya) .obj is a 3d format basically created for communication between 3d programs, specialized for meshes) then import it to blender, everything should make it across.

Nice to see another Maya user hanging around though.
