FO3 GOTY crashing at please stand by after months of not playing it

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am currently running into an issue with my FO3 GOTY steam edition, which is that it is CTD during the please stand buy slide as the game starts up. sometimes I get one tone, sometimes it goes to two or three, but I can not pass that screen any longer. I tried disabling all the mods i have installed, I even re-installed the game. the weird thing is that I had it running a few months ago just fine, and havent changed anything at all since then, apart from not playing it for a little while. I'm going to attach my boss log and everything and am really hoping someone here knows what I need to fix to get this to work.

Steps I have taken so far

Installed FOSE

Edited my .ini

checked the screen resolution

disabled my second monitor

deleted and re-installed the game

ran through all my audio codecs as I saw one person mention on a different site

the only thing I can think of that might have done it is I am currently using SLI linked cards, where as previously I was only using a single card. I am hoping that this isnt the case as I don't feel like pulling that second card out just to play fallout3

System Specs are

Windows 7 64 bit

AMD FX 8350 8 core at 4.0 GHz

16gb Ram

DX 11

Dual GeForce GTX 760

ASUS Crosshair V Formula-z AM3+ mobo

"the only thing I can think of that might have done it is I am currently using SLI linked cards"

It seems you know what is causing the problem. It worked before, you linked your cards and now it doesn't work.

Fallout 3 has a problem working with cards in SLI. Don't you have an option to use only one card for the game?

You should also take care of the errors shown on the BOSS log.

"Fallout 3 has a problem working with cards in SLI. Don't you have an option to use only one card for the game?

I don't know how to drop it to one card for only one specific program, I'm still learning how to work with the SLI stuff

"better mod order"

I atrtempted to follow your order, any the only issue I ran into was that NMM wouldn't allow Darnified to go above FOOK2-[DIK] DLC so I put it as high as it would allow me.

It is still crashing, but I will try and figure out how to make the system run fallout with only the one video card

Thanks

DarNifiedUIF3.esp Version 1.1b5 Active

Is the order of install "prior to installing any other mods, that list I made is the order in which I installed the data By mod name.

That is NOT a load order for the game running, it is an install order.

to point out:

FOOK2 - Main.ESM Version 20140427 Active This is Detected (DarNifiedUIF3.esp Version 1.1b5) During install.

No, it is an esp, it can not go above any esm unless you have tripped the flag to be a master? but still the game will not load the files in that order unless other things are done to circumvent the games Engine.

understand? in is the games mods install order that is what I posted, it does resemble a load order though, ans it will place them correctly.

The bug's comes from Loot and the data it reads. If the data is corrupted from say a bad download, then your mods will not end up in the right order nor will they work.

I installed, and modded the heck out of every mod listed here, I have now 1 single instance of Fook. 1 single instance of weather. and the others were combined into several packed up data packages into a single mod to clear slots, sorted, Debugged, tested, and debugged some more until I was satisfied the data would work correctly.

I produced a perfect set of mods for the game "fallout3" from this list. If you wish ,I can provide proof, screen shots, task manager read outs Wile running, Heck, even a clean saved game with the above data internalized in it.

you do the main game first. load and test.

exit ,load the DLC's run and test. exit. load ne mod at a time, load / test. ...exit if ok.

step by step until you find which mod caused the game to crash.

set it aside and move on to the next mod..load, run test, exit. when your done, you have bad apples sitting set aside that are Either corrupted, broken , or just plain bad. It can be the support data and NOT the plugin it's self, you can have bad mesh files, bad textures, bad xml's.

Understand? The only thing found with in Fook2 was scripted in data out of sync , Mods are made in an esp format using the geck, some authors roll into them more data with other 3rd party tools and do NOT rerun them in the geck ,I even do that, but when you need to clean the data up, you need to mess it up with the geck first, The geck will place encumbrance in NPC records but pascal and VB can not render that data when you try to edit it, ...it is listed and read as an error by the games engine....from which it sprang from. All of this is way over your head, but it all means I have been there and done a lot of things to know this. xml'x control Opt coding alignments in Nmm and fomm. that's is used to read the plugins.

Xedit needs the Engine and a master file to load any data. it needs an ini file too.....sorting tools require data it can read and use as well.

when you load the data and it is not correct, unknown corruption by load order or other, it will fail too, it's might tell you something is wrong, most of the time, it will not.

Dragonskin Tactical Outfit.esp Version 3. Active

DragonskinBonusPack.esp Active

WHSpaceMarineArmor.esp Active

Built into tactics which his built into my mod so that data is obsolete.

Mannequin.esp Version 3.3 ActiveUndergroundHideout.esp Active

That is just a simple tweak done in the actual mod and not needing this one.

I'll just get the data and post it.

  • # This file was automatically generated by Mod Organizer.

UndergroundHideout.esp <- this was tweaked to match the other plugin...directly. gained a slot.

Got it ? that's all the data + a lot more here that you have posted about.

Zero Fose ,and I have right-hand iron sights working as intended. the only item broken from all of this is the animated *.kf files, those were made wrong, and I will probably find some day to tinker with those but not really interested in doing so.

I can not share my data so don't ask..ok? you can learn to mod the games data use the resources and find out how things work....the fun in modding is just that. learning to create things......after you have do a bit, you might find it rewarding, or boring.

coffee cups are filled with tasters choice. how many lumps to you want?
