Dress Codes

With all the great mods improving the realism factor in Oblivion (Primary needs, Seasoned Weather, reasonable changes to prices and weight) I wonder if there is any chance that the clothes a PC is wearing MEAN anything inside the game, and I am actually talking about two different things:

a.) social aspect: effects on disposition (being "overdressed" in a poor area like the waterfront in the Imperial city, appearing in rags in front of the aristocracy etc)

b.) climate: running around in your undies in the mountains around Bruma should give you the good old flu ;D

As an appendix to b.): Generally it would be nice if weather could have an impact on character stats, like standing around in the rain for hours should damage your endurance etc

Now I don't want to place an order for those kinds of mods, it would be nice if a more experienced modder could tell me if the kind of scripts the game uses would make these ideas feasable. My experience with modding games in general is only concerning textures and models, but if there is a good chance of success I would make the effort to learn more about the scripting aspects of modding.

I was wondering about the exact same thing myself. I always keep my character dressed appropriately -- she wears robes or the formal burgundy dress to the mage guild, a dark shirt and blacksmith pants when thieving around the waterfront, etc. It would be fantastic if wearing looted necromancer robes would get you into trouble in the Mages Guild, or wearing armor and a sword in there got you snooty comments, etc.

I've read about eyes being used for race recognition in the game, so I wonder if there are any hooks to allow some sort of action based on clothing type, or anything to that effect.

If you wear a necromancer's robe when in the Mage's Guild the Mage's Guild members either refuse to talk to you, or their disposition is lowered a lot.

There's also a few quests where you have to dress appropriately - one from the Dark Brotherhood and another from Sanguine.

You could certainly create a mod adding more clothing based features - one based on necromancer uniform could be interesting, especially if it's set after the Mage's guild ending.

Sounds interesting! :) Indeed it´s very unrealistic to run around in the dark brother hood´s clothes without atracting at least the guards attention... :glare:

Actually, if you talk to a guard while wearing the Dark Brotherhood outfit, they'll say something like: "I know you have blood on your hands, murderer. I've seen your kind before." (Paraphrase) After that though, they don't say it again.

It would be interesting if someone made a mod where it was mandatory to wear a Dark Brotherhood outfit when acting out a Dark Brotherhood contract, and make it so people like you less when you wear a Dark Brotherhood outfit when simply walking around in public.

One suggestion of mine is that someone could make a mod where people refuse to talk to you when you wear a Dark Brotherhood outfit in public, or you could get arrested for it or something. In any event, I think some changes that enforce various consequences for wearing certain outfits in public would add a whole new level to the game, and add a lot more depth to the game.

If I'm not mistaken, wearing certain outfits can lower, or higer your Fame and Infamy. If anyone else here has the Disguise mod, they know what I am talking about. Not only the Disguises show your Inamy, Fame, etc... But if you have the Disguise Mod On, ANY clothing and Armor shows the Fame, Infamy, etc...

That'd be a great thing to create a werewolf suit as.
