LordEmm
Okay, everything was working well (kinda), until i decided to up the ante on my system. After that i get two strange happenings with Oblivion. First when i start via OBMM (or Wrye, doesn't matter as both start the OBSELauncher anyway), i get the following error while OBSE still starts: Exception EOutOfMemory in module spCapBtn.dll at 00004F9D. It lets me hit OK and Oblivion starts normally after that. THEN, when i start a new game however, i get the King intro, but as soon as the game is supposed to drop me into the world i get a screen like this: Thats still during the scripts loading phase. After everything is loaded i get the HUD etc as normal, but the screen stays blue. I also can't move anywhere. Like i am stuck in the VOID... Then i tried to use the Start-Up choices.esp and start in an INN in Bruma. I get the same screen, except that it is Olive instead of blue... I am guessing it is a Mod problem though, because i have no problems in other games (Tested on FEAR Perseus Mandate, Sims3 Ambitions, Dragon Age Origins) Any idea what the problem could be? Oh before i forgot here are the changes to the system: Added a second ATI Radeon 5870 (running crossfire). Added a second LCD Monitor (actually two of the same make). But did not activate Eyefinity! Only want to game on one screen for now. Thats it... Oh and i used BOSS to sort my game (and had to manually correct the MANY MANY mistakes BOSS made)... Also, and this may be related, since adding the second graphics card under video options the "Shadow Filters" is grayed out. If i look into Render Info it says my card can't even use Shaders 3.0 which is odd, because with the single card (and single monitor) all was fine. I am getting really fed up with this game lately, but i love it so much... wanna play!
Tomlong54210
What mistakes did BOSS make? You should get BOMMif you have Microsoft Word. Try a clean boot. That looks like a hardware issue. Edit: Check your system's temps. Try GPU-Z if you need a utility. Make sure your setup is okay. You need an 800W or higher PSU for that, actually, I guess you need a 1000W or higher PSU. LordEmm
Okay from the top. Mistakes by BOSS are too many to count. Mostly of this sort: Enhanced Grabbing/Unnecessary Violence Liaison put before BOTH Enhanced Grabbing and UV. There were several mistakes of this kind, especially with the XUL patches, also Bartholm. In any case, that is easily fixed and probably not the cause of my problem... although i do guess it IS a mod that is causing this. Obviously i did the Ini cleanup. Not really that new to Oblivion ;) But thanks for the guess. Yeah did the tweaks too (again). Temps are very much in the green area (the 5870s don't get very warm even under full stress. Played GTA4 for 3 hours straight and did not go over 50° Celsius). Got a 1200W PSU. GPU-Z says all is fine. Temps are constant around 42 if i start Oblivion. It's not a hardware problem, as ALL other games and applications run very fine. (well did not test Fallout 3, so will do that soon). Even had 3d mark vantage marathon going (10 times in a row, just to test). It is ONLY that Oblivion that is acting up. And acting up strange too. Even before the systems change with only one 5870 i had very very low FPS, which i could not explain to myself, as Fallout ran with maximum frames. In any case, i very much would welcome any guesses as to the problem. Could it be a driver issue (possible not even graphics driver related?) Did you regen the INI for the video card too? Edit: I guess it was not so recent. Can you try unplugging the other display? I wish I could remember... LordEmm
Okay i ran all the tests possible. Exchanged card slots. Tested each card as a single. Only one Monitor (even each on each port). Here are the results. The first error message seems unrelated to the graphic problem, as i got it in each scenario. So i am guessing it may be other drivers related, as i recently also got Alchemy (creative)... Maybe i should give a full specs rundown: Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IIICPU: AMD Phenom II 965BE (OCed at 3800, but also tested at default clocks)RAM: 8GB DDR3 (Mushkin)Graphics: Originally only a HIS Radeon 5870 later added an ASUS EAH 5870 for crossfiring. Sound: X-Fi Supreme (which came with the MB, and the reason i had to get Alchemy for Oblivion) All on Windows7 Ultimate 64bit. Now back to the results. As i said the error message with the OBSE load happens no matter what i do. Sometimes i get TWO of the same (only at a different address for the second). Nevertheless Oblivion will start. The interesting part is when i exchanged Graphic Cards. I had the ASUS in the first slot, the HIS in the second during first run. So no graphics (also in the renderinfo it was said that no shaders were detected). Then i took out the HIS. Same result. Then i put the HIS as a single card, and what do you know, i got my graphics back (although it immediately crashed after chargen). Still got the error at OBSE load though. Now i know that the ASUS is not faulty, since when i had it in as a single and also as the crossfire master i tested every other game i had installed (see above for a list). And all ran fine on max settings. It is ONLY Oblivion that will not recognize the ASUS card as being able to produce 3.0 shaders (and i guess also many others) which results in there being no graphics displayed except for the HUD and background color. I find that extremely strange. One thing i did not test yet was HIS as master and ASUS as second crossfire. But that can't really be the solution can it? (also i want to use the extra programmes ASUS included ;) The culprit is clearly something in Oblivion, why else would all other games run fine with the ASUS card? The strange thing is that both cards run the same BIOS, although i am not sure if ASUS is default design. But since both are first generation 5870 i would guess so. Maybe there is a way to trick Oblivion into thinking it was another card (like the HIS it accepted before)? As for both problems i still am open to suggestions. Tomlong54210
Try the link I gave you. Your specs look great. You do not even need a sound tweak with the separate sound card. Try the sound drivers thing... Someone had an issue with Alchemy, but there wasn't a graphic anomaly involved. Who knows, maybe that is a side effect of the game stopping wherever it is stopping with your mods' scripts starting up. I'll go look for that thread. Edit: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1101103-game-wont-load-with-creative-alchemy/ <-- This might help. See the last post about enabling it for Oblivion. LordEmm
Just an addition. I tried the crossfire reverse (HIS first, ASUS second) and the problem with the graphics came up again. So it definitely is a problem with the ASUS in combination with Oblivion. HIS alone was no graphics issue problem. I'll look into the other forum later, i am getting very tired here. Just posting here in case anybody has similar problems and we come up with a solution :) And thanks for the kind words, yeah i know my specs are great, lol, kind of the reason why i am so frustrated. But i was even before, because Oblivion was the only game giving me poor performance even before the crossfire idea. I never understood that because Fallout pretty much has the same engine and i can run that with maximum eye candy mods and not get under 55 frames (60 is max for me on the LCDs anyway). With Oblivion it often drops below 10. Well one problem at a time, now i have to get it to run again first, lol. Thank you for helping.
