tigran1001 Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 okay, anytime i open up oblivion to play it. i get an error and the game stops working. i used a debugger tool on it and i get this error Unhandled exception at 0x0040548e in Oblivion.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000008. it also shows alot of missing or incorrect files in my call stack after that. i downloaded the game yesterday. played it for 15 mins. and turned it off. once i turned it back on... this happened i have the Oblivion GOTYE and no addons installed. any advice short of throwing my computer at the wall? yeldarb Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Unless it is Steam or Direct to Drive, it is probably illegal, Steam is the best bet for Oblivion,because you can use the same utilities (like OBSE) that are available for the disc version. If you are using Windows Vista or 7, install the Steam program outside of C:Program Files and UAC. Use C:Games instead of C:Program Files. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What Operating System?Where is it installed (complete path)Did you do anything to the Oblivion.ini file?Did you try to move any part of the game to a new location? Also, The patch is on the second disk (Shivering Isles) so you need to install that one also to be patched. You do not need to have Shivering Isles active in your data list for the patch to work. Update: i actualy found out something odd about the problem today. Oblivion will play.. when it wants to. and sometimes it wont... most of the times it wont.
