Saving .dds files in photoshop

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem with photoshop. I have Nvidia and DirextX downloaded on my computer and I still cannot save my files as .dds files. I have Adobe photoshop CS5 installed. Does Nvidia or directX need to be in specific places on my computer? Should I reinstall the plugins and applications? if so do I need to do it in a specific order? I'm at a loss I've been searching the web looking for answers but I haven't found any. I could really use some advice.

Thanks

I've seen issues if I open Photoshop by clicking on a file or using "Open With"...for whatever reason, it will not load the plugins. But if I open Photoshop directly, the plugins load so the DDS option can be seen when I click File, Save As.

But also know that you cannot save to DDS unless you 1st flatten all your layers. You cannot have a Smart Layer....must be flattened...therefore, save your PSD source file first, then flatten the layers for export but don't save the PSD after you create the DDS so you can get your layers back.

EDIT: If all else fails, flatten your image and save as PNG. Then open the PNG with Paint.NET and then save as DDS.
