ride the spiral
Well Oblivion had been running slowly [stuttering] so I figured I had overdone it a bit with the mods. Now mod uninstallation to me is like pulling loose teeth, lots of loose teeth, so I decided just to re-install and start from scratch, this time avoiding mods that would possibly cause the same problem. For the next 4 hours I painstakingly searched for, downloaded, unzipped, and installed mods that I felt the risk-reward ratio was worth it. [And why are mods like playing russian roulette with Oblivion? Maybe no mod is worth it...]I start up OBMM, hit launch... CTD... before I was even out of the gate this time. Tried again, just to get same results, CTD.[This is all on Vista btw so you can imagine all the silly confirmations I had to click through][[YES, I want to open the thing I just clicked on TO OPEN!!!1!]] Now I could sit here and ask if anyone could help, post all my info, write you my life story, etc. but no, I just want to rant a moment about how ridiculous this whole modding business is. I didn't know I needed a PhD in computer science just to get a handful of mods to work together. And Wyre Bash, or Wrye Bash... that was seriously the most ridiculous thing ever. I just hit next during install as code whizzed across my screen like a scene out of the matrix. Now I'm reinstalling, AGAIN... :dry:And its vanilla all the way this time... Tomlong54210
Regenerate the Oblivion.ini. You probably did not do a clean reinstall. Also, if you use OBMM to install all of your mods, the uninstallation is often even easier than the installation. Just double-click on an activated OMOD to deactivate it, uninstalling the mod contained within. Installing & Uninstalling Oblivion. You do not need a super crazy background to learn how to use mods. You just have to do a bit of reading to know what you are dealing with before you dump a whole lot of them on the game and have it blow up in your face. Tomlong54210
Cool. Let me know if you have any questions at all. I am trying to improve that site specifically for newer users. I take any feedback very seriously. Even if you think the question is silly, do not hesitate to ask.
ride the spiral
Well you should rename that to 'Modding Survival Guide', hah. So far I've got OBSE and OBMM. [didn't want to mess with BOSS or BASH]My question is: should I install streamline or OSR? Doing both sounds risky.
Luminiari
I use Streamline on my non-gaming rig. IT'S BEAUTIFUL.
LFact
Even if you don't want to mess with BOSS and Wrye Bash, they're needed to sort your mod list(especially if you want to sort your mods automatically) and make several 'conflicting' mods work together.Using Streamline and OSR is recommended, though you need to know how to configure both to get reasonable performance. Besides, Streamline trades graphic quality with performance(If you have really good computer, you may not need some features).

So I guess no streamline... my graphix card isn't that bad, 7600GS.But seriously? I NEED Wrye Bash?I have so much trouble trying to get it to work.OBMM has load order... will that not suffice? edit:grammar/spelling
Tomlong54210
Well you should rename that to 'Modding Survival Guide', hah. So far I've got OBSE and OBMM. [didn't want to mess with BOSS or BASH]My question is: should I install streamline or OSR? Doing both sounds risky.Install both BOSS and Bash. They are not as monstrous as they seem, and if you want to save yourself hours, that is the way to go. Install both of those mods. See the SL.ini setup page for directions on how to turn off the relevant setting in Streamline to ensure that they are not working against one another. You can find the page under "Tuning Oblivion." Edit: Wrye Bash is a much more powerful mod management tool, all the way around. OBMM's strongest points have to do with its associated mod packaging method and its utilities. If you read the entire Preparing for Mods page, it explains the point of using OBMM as the main mod installation tool (especially for newer users) while keeping Bash around for the fine tuning. Bash simply offers many features that OBMM and all other OB tools have no way to support. Please, install BOSS and Bash to save yourself much time, and set the setting in OBMM that does not allow it to modify your LO. It can be quite a headache when you install mods witih OBMM and your load order is destroyed as a result. That graphics card is on the lower end of the spectrum for gaming, but it supports DirectX 9.0, and that is all you need to run. I cannot say what kind of setting you could have with it. Definitely watch out for heavy graphics mods.
