Shadow Error?

Ok..

When i first bought Oblivion, it ran crappy, after all, i have a Geforce FX5200 card, PCI. Then yesterday, i was playing a saved game, and when i was casting a spell i saved (i hadn't realised the spell was not finished being cast) Somehow that screwed up that file.

However, i saved when i was in the Imperial catacombs, and something remarkable happend.

I have NO clue what happend, but now, it runs PERFECTLY!! The lips now match the words, the screen isn't choppy.. Enemies are remarkably faster, i thought they were sluggish!! heh..

The ONLY problem i have?

There are two, actually.

1. No matter how low i turn the brightness level, the screen remains bright. The nights are lit up, so that i have to check the time in the Imperial City to confirm it is night time.

2. The shadows look like flat green grass. I;m serious. When i was walking to Bruma, i thought i was falling through the ground, but when i went into crouch mode and tilted the cursor to see myself, i realized i was in a shadowy place.

Is there a way to keep the remarkable performance without the brightness issues or the shadows? When i configured the options whilst in bruma, i noticed it said 'Initializing LOD' before it went into that green shadow thing..

Is it possible to turn off LOD?

Thanks!
