Waloosh
I've had this problem for years.. could never understand why and have never been able to find a solution... Why can I never use the landscape editor the places that I want? I made a mod a while back, Aleric's Castle, where I tried to use the landscape editor and ended up making a pink spot near a rock. It's been a long time, but I decided to go back and add to and fix the mod a little bit, but for one, I can't even see the pink spot in the construction set, and two, the landscape editor wont go anywhere I want, but it goes OUTSIDE of where I want. I've got the specific square location of Tamriel 6,18 6,19 and 6,20, I double click on any of them, keep one of them highlighted, use the landscape tool, and it never goes inside the square I want.. Any ideas?
DavidBudreck
There are a number of preference settings for editing landscapes. I would start by checking there; make sure you don't have it set to edit 100 x 100, etc. Go to the WIKI for an explanation of each of them, as from what I remember not all of these are intuitive. Second, when you say "Edit Landscapes" do you mean with the Heightmap editor or the Landscape Editor? The heightmap editor is problematic. Do a search in these forums for "Heightmap" and read EVERY one of the replies. There are a number of things to watch for and a number of things that can go wrong. Waloosh
I'm talking about the Landscape Editor. I went back to try and edit it some more, and it still wont go inside the square I want, but where I did edit, you can clearly see as you can actually see the edge of the square. Apparently I've gotten it to work before seeing as how there's a cobblestone path leading to the front door, but I can't do anything with it anymore. Here's a screenshot of what I mean by seeing the edge of the square: It's almost like it's ignoring the existence of the square I WANT to edit, lol. DavidBudreck
Oh, OK, now I get it. You're going to hate the explanation, but it is actually very simple. What is happening is that the texture you are trying to apply is failing to apply because there are too many textures in the cell. I believe exterior cells are subdivided into Quadrants, and that each Quadrant can only have a certain number of textures (I believe this is 9). There is a hotkey combination you can press that brings up an information dialoge, but I've only done this a few times and I cannot remember exactly, but I think it is Control-I. Do this When you are in landscape edit mode (otherwise it won't work). It took me a few tries before I figured out how to get the silly thing to pop up. But once it does you can see what, and how many textures are being applied fore each quadrant in the cell. I do not know how to "remove" a texture from a quadrant other than overwriting all of it with one of the other textures. This is really meant to be done once when the landscape is being created; it is not user-friendly toward editing.
Waloosh
Nothing wrong with your explanation actually, some pretty useful information, except it was Ctrl + Alt + I for me. There are four quadrants that it shows, and all I need to do is find which one I don't need, right click, and delete or replace. I don't really like it because, like you said, not very user-friendly, lol. Thanks so much, this helped greatly =D
