spinspider
Honestly this is the reason why I spared him the first time I played as a City Elf, because I wasn't sure if I would be able to succeed in the landsmeet at the end of the game if I killed him. The extremely annoying brawl fight that happens if you don't gain the support of all the nobles is just ugh... I don't like it, it drags on forever and I want to avoid it completely. But... IS Vaughan's support needed to "win" the Landsmeet, or can you still get the best possible result if you kill him or leave him in his cell to rot? Does anyone know? Cause I'd really like to kill him when I play as a City Elf again...
danscott84
He is not needed, but helps if you cannot get the other three on your side. If you save Alfstanna's brother, the tortured son of the bann (forget his name) and tell the Landsmeet that the blight is the threat, not Orlais, then you have the three you need. You can save Vaughn, torture him (I wish), kill him, or whatever. However, letting him live will net disapproval from Zevran, and if he is low enough on the scale, he WILL betray you. Little backstabbing &(*(^&%&*. (sorry, my bad)
RustyBlade
I kill him every time and only that one sorry little weasel votes against me at the landsmeet. I do all the quests, give all the right responses and laugh at Loghain every time. Even when I play a noble human, he dies in the dungeon; I use the rationalization that his reputation has spread even as far as Highever and regard him as an affront to what the nobility stands for. Lehcar, if you are having trouble resolving the quests you need to get the nobles' support, I recommend you see http://guides.gamepressure.com/dragonageorigins/ as they break all the quests down and it makes for a handy reference. CrapsterZ
As long as you tell Anora you'll support her, and get enough support Wulf, Alfstanna, the father of the tortured noble and choose the right dialogue options, you'll always come out with a 5-1 victory. Helps if you get the slave papers from the Alienage to use as proof too. You MUST have the papers or it will count as a false claim against Loghain. Sinophile
I killed Vaughan in the city elf Origin, and managed to get all five council members to vote for me(albeit by using multiple reloads). If you don't kill any men while rescuing Anora, the Arl of Denarim will vote for you.
RustyBlade
If Vaughn Urien is dead at the time of the Landsmeet, Denerim has no Arl because to rescue Anora you must kill him (Arl Howe.) If I had to guess and there is no proof of this, I would guess that the 5th (the whiny guy who usually votes for Loghain) is the Arl of Lothering as the refugees tell you he went off to Denerim with Loghain's forces leaving Lothering to its fate. spinspider
Actually, the codex says that the town of Lothering is part of the South Reach arling. Which doesn't make sense since Arl Bryland (South Reach's arl) always sides with the Warden at the landsmeet no matter what, meaning he must not have ever been on Loghain's side. I'm really confused, because if he was not on the bad guy's side, why would he bring his army north and abandon the poor, hapless Lothering?
RustyBlade
Edit: nevermind, read your post wrong and now I'm confused too :wallbash:

Step 1: don't mention alistair. ever. or the fact that he betrayed cailan.Step 2: orlais is NOT a threat.Step 3: selling elves into slaveryStep 4: ask about anoraStep 5: when anora's done her little speech, say "the queen is telling the truth" this should get your votes except for the old fart.
