bulerian
I don't know how to explain it any further. All I would be doing is repeating myself. I just suggest reading everything again.Wait. I think I got it. I'm running Vista. Smooth, I did everything you said to do, and it still didn't work. I'm gonna try moving the Data folder and modding it via desktop. I haven't had a problem thus far, but this is also the first mod with meshes that I've put in. So maybe that's my problem. Idk. Thanks for all your help, sorry I'm so dense. XD Edit: Ye Gods, I've done it! It was the Vista deal all along. I just drug it onto my desktop and reworked everything. Thanks for all the help, Smooth. Hanker109
I have installed several mods and they were working fine until I started playing with Wrye Bash. I'm trying to learn the features on this program so I started to look into the different aspect of it. I must have clicked on something that altered my games structure because once I left this program, Oblivion would not launch at all. I took the last saved game and tried to load it with no avail. So my question is, does my save games contain all the backward files or not? Do I need to back up my Data Folder also? Like always, thanks for any help you can give me. mikwarleo
I'm totally new to Elder Scrolls. Oblivion is my first RPG in a LONG time. I love it but am finding modding it very difficult. Currently at 2 days and counting. I consider myself pretty good technically but finding the right information is proving difficult. Like the previous poster I would like informaiton BAIN/Wyre Bash. I have done a lot of searching before posting this and have not found anything that shows basic use of either BAIN or OBMM. I feel I get OBMM but BAIN is a total mystery and I would prefer BAIN for what I read about how well it arranges the mods and handles conflicts. Links to guides on the wyre/bain download page are dead. Links I've found through google etc have limited information and no clear examples. If someone can point me to a good tutorial that works through some real examples with this software it would be much appreciated. Same for OBMM. At the moment I think I'm going to settle for manual install with vanilla back up as more time trying to figure out the mod managers seems pointless without knowing where to look for good informaiton. Many thanks Edited November 27, 2010 by mikwarleo
Smooth613
I understand you're new, Mikwarleo, but I imagine you downloaded Wrye Bash from TESNexus, right? And don't think I'm picking on you, this is a blanket statement to many folks out there. Since these questions are asked on a daily basis. Why is it so hard to find Wrye Bash information? At this point in time I'm really not sure. It baffles me that people just simply ignore links and other information on mod description pages. Then ignore, or skim over the ReadMe files included with the download. Now if this had been a year ago, or even months ago, my response might have been different. But it's present time and information is readily available. The information is there, you're just not using it. Simple as that. On the Wrye Bash page you can find two links. The most recent and newbie friendly is the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies. It also includes many links to just about anything related to Wrye Bash. It's like a one stop shop. MadGodofRage
I'm a little new at the modding, myself, since I only recently was able to download ES: Oblivion (lack of funds to get a real disk copy). I've had some luck with a few mods, but whenever I try installing new mods for armor, weapons, etc., they install wrong. I always get that *bleep*ing yellow exclamation point whenever I try a new mod. And if it's with armor and weapons, the said items are invisible and so are the icons. I did everything as asked at the beginning post, but I didn't want to overwrite any of my current armor/weapon mods. I tried placing a number at the end of the new files (IE: meshes1). This has been going on for a few weeks now and it's driving me crazy. Can someone help me? And, as I stated before about being a beginner, I'm not familiar with the mod mumbo jumbo. I'd appreciate anything along the lines of simple instructions. Gártha, cairde. :)
Smooth613
@MadGodofRage: Of course the mods you install are not working. You're not following the instructions and are trying to alter the names of the folders/files. Oblivion will not recognize them if the meshes or textures, or other files, are not in a specific location. When a mod tells you to copy and paste the contents to a specific folder you need to do exactly that. When it asks if you want to overwrite you need to select "Yes to all". This will not erase any of the original files, but merges the new information with the old. Plus the original Oblivion Meshes, Textures, Sound, etc are stored in archives, called BSAs, not in loose folders. So unless you delete or alter the BSA files you will always have the original content. You will need to read some more about installing mods and other aspects to fully understand how everything works. Hell people have been modding this game for years and we still don't understand it all. But you have to at least try to read and understand the information that's available. TESIV:POSItive is a great place to start.
