HungryKnight
I have played Fallout 3 for about 2-3 months now, but now I can't take it anymore. What I want to know is whether it's my graphics card or the game that keeps doing it. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5750 card, the weird thing is that both Fallout 3 and Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars (maybe othe games but I haven't tried) crash at random time, sometimes it can be hours, sometimes only 5 minutes, but the outcome is similar-I HAVE to press restart button. Alt+ctrl+del doesn't work, NOTHING works: the screen either goes blank or a one variety of colours like green, brown with lines. I NEVER, repeat, NEVER had this problem before I bought this card, maybe it's because they were all NVIDIA...I am wondering is someone has any solutions, I already scrounged through pages of forum threads with people dealing similar problems but so far nothing helps then again I haven't tried everything they wrote but my feeling is Fallout 3 doesn't support ATI HD 5700 series at ALL so if someone can prove me wrong I'll be grateful. Thank you in advance, any help would be appreciated! ...Until then, I'm gonna leave it in the box and find another activity lol.
KDStudios
Hey there, I know the frustration you are going through. I was (still am kinda) going through it last month. It is NOT the graphics card. The game engine is the worst engine I've ever worked on. Crashes all the time, and the game is literally unplayable on my playstation 3. Just won't stop crashing over and over and over... I just got bored with it and stopped fighting it.HOWEVER I managed to kinda fix my problem by making a new account on my computer and installing Fallout on that ( I needed 2 Fallout games at that time ) and now it rarely crashes. But like you it can go hours fine and then crash in literally a few minutes. You are not alone, the game does this to everyone. Except those who are fortunate to have it not happen to them at all.But that may only be because they have almost identical setup to what the game was actually built on! anokii
Not that I've seen - you pretty much have to reinstall due to registry settings and the like. Also when you uninstall it is recommended that you do a very clean uninstall, another words remove all traces as sometimes as we all know programs will leave bits and pieces behind that can cause issues. I think there's a thread on this forum with the recommended steps.
Iv000
My game crashed too every 2 minutes.Even on a fresh install of windows 7.I somehow fixed it and am now running over 150 mods...I have a ATI 4850...just to let you know. Here is all of the fixes that i did maybe it will help you: I Uninstalled ALL codecs, media programs (winamp...), and installed the win7codec pack by shark007, and added my fallout3.exe to the "do not use ffdshow video and audio in" option. In the FO3 root directory i renamed the atimgpud.dll to atimgpud.dll.old I returned my CPU and GPU to default clock In the fallout ini i did the multicore CPU patch (usethreadedAI=1, inumHWThreads=2) Installed the fallout stuter remover mod Disabled AA, AF = 8 !!important!! try to disable water refractions, i dont know why but ATI cards have a problem with water refractions... and water multisampeling to low. I used FO3Edit and FO3Masterupdate to create the perfect harmony between mods. I used GameBooster to disable all unnecessary programms while in he game (freed up 200 mb of ram) I prayed to God... and Buddah Finally i started the game and had fun with it for 12 hours without crashes! Hopefully this will resolve your problems.
